I'm going to try to watch most of the games, even if I don't follow soccer closely anymore like I did in the past the World Cup is always special

been a portugal supporter for the past 10 years, not going to be any different this year although i'm not banking on ronaldo single-handedly leading a team of (comparatively) average players to glory, there's only so much a single world class player can do against an entire team of good players like germany and spain. still, it's nice to dream of the impossible

but as an asian i would also be supporting the asian countries, which to me only counts as south korea and japan due to their abilities. hoping these 2 at least get past the group stages

and high-5 HRMT, i'm also predicting a 3-1 scoreline for brazil. i would be kicking myself for not placing a bet if that really happens

@metalleo: Cheering for Japan too actually but it will be difficult.

i don't see any reason japan can't at least progress into the knockout rounds. they have a good squad with plenty of europe-based players, and they're in a group that's not impossible to get through, as described perfectly by a website i chanced upon 

Rather perfectly, Japan have been thrown into a tricky but by no means impossible Group C, alongside a good (but Falcao-less) Colombia, a decent (but ageing) Ivory Coast, and a rubbish (and hideous) Greece. They could win all three games and top the group; they could lose them all and bomb out in disgrace.

i actually literally LOLed at their description of greece. but this sentence describes exactly why japan can at least get into the next round.

and same for south korea too, they just need to get a good result against either belgium or russia and they have a great chance of getting through as well.

what will happen in the knockout stages though.. i'll rather not think about it until it happens, but hey, considering asian football isn't at a similar level as european and south american football i'll take a progress into the knockout stages for both teams any day

I'm so excited for the World Cup! Honestly, the first time I watched it was in 2010, and since then I've been a fan!

I can't wait to see the first match today! Overall, I believe Brazil might win! I'm also rooting for Argentina, Spain, and Japan!

Also, can you guys imagine if SCANDAL were to do the World Cup song for Japan??

1-1 now, Brazil got really scared ^^ I think they will win in 2nd half.

@metalleo: I didn't say they can't, as you say there is no reason they can't but I still think it will be difficult because the other teams can be good too. It's a group where a lot can happen IMO. Japan could finish 1st or 4th. Hopefully they qualify!

But a bit sad for Croatia, to be honest they didn't deserve to lose this game. Referee shouldn't have given the penalty and then the 2-2 was valid, Olic (I think it was him?) plays the ball, the goalkeeper made a mistake there.

Well to be fair both GK were bad... Still not sure how he can take the third goal, must have been sleeping  :whistle:

LOL Yes! I got South Korea as my team to watch out for. They have a lot of young talent and hopefully they'll do good in this tournament!

And as for the poll I voted Spain to defend the cup. My motherland lol. But I really want the US to do good also.  

Some predictions for Spain - Netherlands ?
Even if Spain is favorite i think that Netherlands will win or in the worst case will be even.

dammit i'm really kicking myself for not betting on 3-1 to brazil last night. oh well can't do anything about it. 

4 hours to the next round of matches. spain-netherlands looks really exciting. i'm betting on a 2-2 draw for that, they are too good to differentiate, although if costa doesnt make it it could become a rather significant advantage for netherlands

chile-australia 2-0

The problem for Netherlands is their weak/young defense as far as I know... They have great offensive but Spain has actually a very good defense. So I don't see them winning against Spain, I think a draw for them would be awesome if they can make it happen.

That being said, Spain is getting older and they have won so much in the last years, at some point they will get weaker and lose I guess. To be honest I hope they don't win the cup, they really won enough, another country should take the title and be happy ^^

Spain can still qualify but I wonder if they can come back after such a game or if it's the end of an era for them. On French TV they said it's their worse game since... 1963 =O Their next game will be interesting to watch!

To be fair, referees are almost always the main topic, or at least a hot topic. They need the help of videos nowadays very badly. Too fast, too much pressure, players that fake, etc.

To be honest I think Ivory Coast is going to win but hoping that Japan can win this one to have a great start!

Btw, does anyone knows how World Cup is in Japan? Is it just a normal event where sports shows talk about it or are people going crazy and waiting for each game? Thinking about this because it will be great if SCANDAL could cheer for their team   Like wear the jersey and post pics lol
