HA HA! Dude I'm pretty glad that all the old school guys are still touring... It's a lil harder for older bands to come tour the US since their companies either lost interest or dropped them by now, but it's super nostalgic to see them upfront every now and then...
The very first time I got into Jrock/Jpop was way back in 94 (My goodness! I was 10 years old...) and I pretty much got ostracized by everyone for listening to something out of the norm... (Mom and dad did not approve of the rock... let alone the Jrock!)... Long story short, now a mass majority of the younger generation has either been washed or touched down onto something having to do with Japan... HA HA! POKEMON!!!
I heard about Shonen Knife around the same time but sourcing out material was a pain in the ass since Japanese music wasn't widely available at the time (Darn cassettes!), so I dropped out of the J-music scene for a few years and it totally boomed back when the internet (THE INTERNETZ!!!) brought everything back to full circle... Shonen Knife was still out of my mind until I randomly youtubed The Ramones "The KKK Took My Baby Away" just recently and friggin Shonen Knife was listed as a cover!!! Not just that but they even released an album called "Osaka Ramones"... BWAH HA HA!!! That's when I went searching for any recent info and found the tour dates... Kinda bummed that it took me almost a full year from the "OR" release date, but gnarly as hell that they're still active!
Man Geo, how old are you anyways? I think you mentioned seeing The Pillows earlier in SF and they're back from the hayday also...
