@ GeoFreak: The first few seconds explains it all...

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/l0ToVPEaDyk?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

HA HA! Dude I'm pretty glad that all the old school guys are still touring... It's a lil harder for older bands to come tour the US since their companies either lost interest or dropped them by now, but it's super nostalgic to see them upfront every now and then...

The very first time I got into Jrock/Jpop was way back in 94 (My goodness! I was 10 years old...) and I pretty much got ostracized by everyone for listening to something out of the norm... (Mom and dad did not approve of the rock... let alone the Jrock!)... Long story short, now a mass majority of the younger generation has either been washed or touched down onto something having to do with Japan... HA HA! POKEMON!!!

I heard about Shonen Knife around the same time but sourcing out material was a pain in the ass since Japanese music wasn't widely available at the time (Darn cassettes!), so I dropped out of the J-music scene for a few years and it totally boomed back when the internet (THE INTERNETZ!!!) brought everything back to full circle... Shonen Knife was still out of my mind until I randomly youtubed The Ramones "The KKK Took My Baby Away" just recently and friggin Shonen Knife was listed as a cover!!! Not just that but they even released an album called "Osaka Ramones"... BWAH HA HA!!! That's when I went searching for any recent info and found the tour dates... Kinda bummed that it took me almost a full year from the "OR" release date, but gnarly as hell that they're still active!

Man Geo, how old are you anyways? I think you mentioned seeing The Pillows earlier in SF and they're back from the hayday also...

I'm 21. I heard about The Pillows from the anime FLCL, and for a while I only had their songs from that show. Then I decided to look up the rest of their discography, and I rather liked some of their old stuff.

I like the old school punk sound of that Shonen Knife song you posted too. Gotta love their lyrics, lol. Definitely need to check out more of them!

@graphicjay - oh lol. I remember having to write a college paper on why I think graffiti is good. It had to be a controversial paper....and I got an A on it. XD

@topic - man, you Californians are lucky, getting all the cool bands like Shonen Knife and the Pillows in your area and stuff. I kinda wish I still lived in California. I lived in Sunnyvale, CA for about 3 years when I was little. Good times.

I saw Shonen Knife tonight, and they were great! Naoko still rocks hard at the age of 50. Emi is a really good drummer, and she sang a whole song while drumming! But the one who stole the show for me was Ritsuko, the bassist. She's a great bassist and was full of energy, jumping around and headbanging. She even sang a song too. And not only does she look like Mami (with her old black hairstyle, at least), she also likes manga and video games, especially Monster Hunter. I think I'll soon have a new girl bassist crush (sorry, Nohana).

@ Geo: Dude the show was balls! Atsuko was totally chill and she ran the merch booth while mingling with fans... "We were throwing up devil horns at each other the entire night! HA HA!!!"... Shonen Knife kicked ass overall!!! They were walking around and chilling in the crowd before their showtime, so there was none of that management BS keeping them away from rocking out in the open... Definitely I'm psyched about the show later today... Happy

I didn't want to seem like a fanboy so I stayed away from them most of the time, but it'll be a different story tonight... CHYEAH!!!

@ Yoshi: Come on over to Cali dude! There's fun stuff happening all the time here so drop by whenever! It might just be us personally, but hospitality is top notch here... HA HA!

BACK FROM ROUND 2!!! \m/

Pretty much self explanatory as to how I felt about the show, but it was MAD BALLS AGAIN!!! Aside from the blazing heat that kept me fully sober, the night was totally awesome!

None of my SD buddies had the guts to come out so I sorta went solo to the SD show... My bro came out to check out the scene because he hasn't been to a rock show before and he ended up digging Shonen Knife and all things punk rock... HA HA!

"Bro! They're older than mom!"
"WTF?! The bass player is going at it!"

I chatted with Atsuko for the most part since she was manning the merch booth again, but I got the band to sign my 10" tom this time around... Ritsuko was about to smack the living daylights out of me though...

Atsuko: "Oh drum! You play the drums?"
Me: "Oh yeah! I have to! I'm pretty destructive!"
Atsuko: "I used to play drums for the band also."
(Emi finishes her siggy on the tom and passes it to Ritsuko)
Me: Yeah! Drums are awesome! You have to be crazy to play drums! Drummers saiko desu!
(I throw up devil horns at Emi and she throws it back at me. Ritsuko stops signing the drum. Looks up.)
Ritsuko: "Hontou? What about bass?!"
Me: "OH! NO!" Bassists are totally cool too! Ah ha ha...
(I sweat)

Nonetheless everything was good n gravy after that... HA HA! Well I'm pretty pooped right now so I'll finish up the recap tomorrow... Good stuff awaits!!!

Are there any NorCal members here? Seems like a majority of you guys are in the SoCal area. Lucky bastards who get all the goodies... CANTA Peace

Anyways, there's this Monster Energy Aftershock Fest happening on Sept. 23 in Sac-town and I was wondering if anyone else might be going. It's a pretty decent line-up, especially for those who are big on 90's rock. STP is the only grunge-era band I haven't seen live yet so I'm pretty stoked about this concert.

Beware of Darkness will also be there. They are the guys that opened for Stereopony in Santa Ana.

There are at least 2 of us from the Bay Area who are currently active (ZX636 and me).

I've heard a little bit of STP on the radio, but I don't really know them. Plus, I don't have a car so it'd be hard to get to Sacramento.

@ Ender: Yeah most of us are located down in SoCal (or the ones that are most active here at least)... We're all located around the LA area so that's where all the fun happens... except for me though, I'm pretty much the guy that puts on the most miles to get to every meet... HA HA! I'm still hell bent on making it up to the Bay Area to hang out with Geo and the rest of the guys but my work schedule is pretty off beat right now, so it has to wait til further notice... heh...

But definitely that Fest is looking pretty good! the BoD guys are pretty chill in person but the lead gets all twisted when he's on stage... TRUST ME, you'll see!... Thumbs up on the Deftones too man! The last time I saw them was some years ago down here in LA one night... I don't remember much that but my buddies said I had one hell of a good time and a knot on top of my head that proved it... HA HA!!!

September is one hell of a month though, If all things go right, I should be starting a new job then so I'll be gone even from the SoCal crowd for the first few months... *SPOILER*

@Geo: Damn, only 3 of us so far eh? And yeah, Berkeley is pretty far off. You study at Cal?

@BigO: Yeah man, I'm really looking forward to seeing the older bands like STP, Bush, Deftones, and Oleander. I've seen the Deftones a few times, and it does get pretty wild. It'll be the first time I'll be seeing them without Chi, so I hope they still have the same intensity. Can't wait to hear 7 Words live again! Good luck with the new job!

@ Ender: The new job is coming along but I haven't touched down on it yet... There's a lot of stuff I need to go through because of my last termination that's of the same type of venue but that's nothing biggie...

Dude, Lamb of God just announced a re-tour schedule!!! WOO!!! You can read into it since it's a long story that started back in 2010, but their front man, Randy Blythe, was detained and locked up in the Czech Republic and that ultimately cancelled their original tour with Gojira and Dethklok... Now they're relined up with Hatebreed, In Flames, Sylosis, and Hellyeah for whatever days and they're playing in LA on Oct. 31st!!! WOOT!

So...

- Lamb of God (Metal Band)
- October 31, 2012 (Nationwide available)
- TBA; Los Angeles, CA
- $TBA on the 21st and after
http://www.lamb-of-god.com/tour (Tour Dates; Updating)
Metal... Not for the faint of heart... HA HA HA!!! Chris Adler is a beast on the drums... I'm totally going to this and gunna stomp out some dudes in the mosh pit... Rock on

@ Geo: "George?"

Damn man! Where have you been? (Besides Japan... =Dp ) It's been pretty calm over here since it's the slow season, but we've been hanging out more so than ever... Although we do tend to disappear from each other around this time of the season, but it is what it is... heh... and we never got the chance to hang out even once before you left... not once...

What's shaking on that side of the world? Have you integrated yourself in yanki life and duked it out over turf yet? /smug
