Because that was blocked in the first place, which mean u won't be able to watch it, only Japanese can.

That's because the playlist is full of their SMEJ videos, you are able to see the playlist but aren't able to watch it, only Japanese can. Of course some exceptions from that channel that you're able to watch like that Freedom Fighter video. Try to make playlist by yourself with MVs from their Scandal4vevo channel

Noticed that too. Been down for weeks now. Ethical issues aside, I have to say that that channel helped me find my way to SCANDAL. I read that some of members' crucial point of being a SCANDAL fan was when they watched a video of SCANDAL performing Shoujo S in Perfect World in YT. I don't know if they are referring to the same video I watched but that video I watched (which was also my own crucial point) was upped by SCANDAL Turkey which kinda makes me sad.

it's getting harder and harder to access (legally) Scandal music outside of Japan ... we can not watch the MV, we can not even buy their music on digital platforms, or listen to them on streaming sites ...

I could not absolutely say that I agree with you because I have no experience with that the previous years as I only became a fan this year. Yet, it do look and feel hard indeed especially for new fans, like us, who did not have the luxury of knowing SCANDAL way before. All you've said is true although the MV issue is now okay and the online streaming too. I can currently listen to them thru Spotify although many songs are not available.
Personally, I find obtaining the physical copies the hard part. Of course, as a new fan, I wanted to buy an album but the shipping cost is killing me. Haha. So I decided to earn enough money first and order albums in batches so as to mitigate the cost.
Also, and obviously, SCANDAL is being constrained from the world. It's hard to be a fan when you don't have someone close by to share your joy.

And the limited editions! Knowing it will be exponentially harder to obtain those makes me want to cry.

In Europe (and I suppose also in the US), we still can not watch or buy Scandal's music (the situation has not changed since May), but I remember that some Asian countries have been "unlocked" before the Asian tour in June. We can only hope that the situation will change with the upcoming American tour.

So I order their records on Amazon Japan despite the very high prices because of import taxes...

Unfortunately, we can not do anything, only Sony Music Japan can change things.
You can buy the music of many Japanese artists but not Scandal, it is not an effective way to make them known to more people in the world.

Before this gets even more off-topic, I'm closing this thread for now until there are official updates about SCANDAL's official YouTube channels.

Just to update this thread: As of February 18, 2019 (made public on the 24th), SCANDAL has a new, region-free YouTube channel! By that, we hear that all forthcoming videos uploaded to it will be region-free.

Note that their old scandalSMEJ channel has been merged with it. However, most of the videos are still region-locked to Japan and probably will stay like that (thanks, Sony).

Those music videos that had been uploaded to their VEVO channel last June but were region-locked to only a few Asian countries (link) have finally been made available worldwide (although when you click on a video, it says the uploader is now their Official Artist Channel):

It's most likely Epic's/Sony's doing. If anything, it's probably so they have another SCANDAL video up that they can make money from, now that the band's no longer on their label lol

Does anyone have information regarding the music that was pulled from iTunes, Google, etc.., and if there are any plans to restore their availability in those affected regions?   US for me, or other regions for applicable fans.

The only plausible reason I could find for their removal last year was due to the belief that Patty Smyth re-licensed the name “Scandal” (true or not, unknown).   I would guess there would be a problem with the reposting/reopening availability on YouTube if that were truly the case.   Which now opens the question of international availability being restored on other platforms.

I do not have any knowledge about international licensing, copyrights, trademarks, costs of publishing in various regions/markets, or true reason for the music and videos being pulled last year.  So any information pertinent to the topic would be helpful and appreciated.    Thanks

Affected regions = every country in the world except for Japan lol

It's probably very likely that their music will also be up on iTunes/etc. at the same time it goes back up again on Spotify/Apple Music, which they said is coming soon.

As for the reason(s) why they had to take them down in the first place, there are obviously plenty of fan speculations about that. Officially, the band has never addressed the problem, so it's unlikely they'll ever say what the real reason(s) was/were.
