Indie ArtistPretty covers to match an awesome song. c: The girls are really looking beautiful on the cover and the song sounds like it's going to be really summery. Even though it's being released in August lol.
I watched their Nico Nico live. I find that Suu talks pretty fast at certain times, it was sort of hard to keep up with her at times lol. They all did really well on their live. :3

I found translation to this article.
- Interview with Silent Siren’s Suu (Yoshida Sumire / Vocal & Guitar)→:
- We know that the band started when you and Hinanchu hit it off at an photoshoot for 10-FEET (designer label). But how did you really begin taking an interest in music? → "For me, I was influenced by my sister who’s 10 years older than me. It’s really because my sister loved music and became a vocalist for a band, and then we often have music playing in the house. As I watched my sister work hard for the band, I thought that it was very cool of her. I especially admired my sister when she played the piano, so with that admiration, I begun practicing the piano from grade school onwards."
So it all started from the piano → "I was always playing the piano when I was in 6th grade, and then when I entered middle school, I still maintained that interest in my sister’s band. In year 2 of middle school, I bought my first guitar set with ¥10,000 from my pocket money. After that, I started an all-girl band in year 1 of high school."
That first guitar you bought, was it an acoustic (guitar)? → "It was. I thought my sister was really cool whenever she played the acoustic guitar, and it was just nice that at that time I gotten the chance to come in contact with an classic guitar due to music studies in school. I remembered feeling really happy that time. I also do think the drums and bass (guitar) is really cool in a band, but I still think the most melodious instrument is the guitar after all. It not only has chords but it is also the closest to a piano. It was easy for me to pick the guitar."
How did you manage to form a band in year 1 of high school? → "I formed it with a few girls from the same class as I am. There were the drums, bass guitar, 2 on the guitar, even the piano…a total of 5 girls. We copied a lot of bands. There were songs from the Anime「K-ON!」, MAXIMUM THE HORMONE、Hi-STANDARD、GO!GO!7188…we definitely did a lot. We also bought the magazine『Go!Go! GUITAR』, and played whatever scores that we were interested in that came with the magazine."
Did you manage to perform live? → "No, as we were a culteral-festival-limited band. So other then performing at cultural festivals, we didn’t manage to play at any live houses or such."
I see. So it was in high-school when you started your modeling career right? → "In the second half of year 2 in high school, I went to Tokyo. It was when I was touring Tokyo when someone took a snap of me (for a magazine), and after that they wanted me to enter a modeling agency. I was scouted like that and it begun. There wasn’t anyone I really knew in Tokyo or could rely on, so I thought I needed this and decided to try it out."
It feels like when you came to Tokyo, you were also taking a break from music. → "Mm…that’s right. Modeling for the first time coming up to Tokyo was everything to me then, but that’s also how I met Hina and started the band."
It feels like when you came to Tokyo, you were also taking a break from music. → "Mm…that’s right. Modeling for the first time coming up to Tokyo was everything to me then, but that’s also how I met Hina and started the band."
- Interview with Silent Siren’s Hinanchu (Umemura Hinako / Drums)→:
- Hinanchu, how did music begin for you? → "When I was young, I’d always be playing the violin. From when I was age 5 till 15, I’d practice and go for lessons each week for 10 years…no matter when I was living in Tokyo or when I was still in Hyogo Prefecture. Even when I moved to Indonesia, I’ll always be playing the violin."
You were playing even when you were in Indonesia! → "That’s right. I had a teacher even in Indonesia…but in Indonesia, they didn’t teach with “do-re-mi-fa-so-la-si-do" (solfège, a pitch thing), and it was also a different environment as compared to Japan…but no matter what I couldn’t stop playing the violin. I hated it. My parents kept telling me play it, so I kept playing it till I was in 3rd year of middle school."
When did you begin the drums? → "I thought I’d start a band when I was in year 1 or 2 of middle school, but then Indonesia happened so the band thing never got to happen. Then I thought I should first pick up an instrument. ‘Cause I was pretty bad at anything besides the violin, I decided to pick up the drums. I practiced drumming alone, and thought I’ll start a band when I manage to return to a high school in Japan. I got into a school which had a light-music club and started a band in my first-year of high school."
I see…but why the drums? Was there a strong reason behind that? → "(During middle school period while in Indonesia) Right in front of my classroom was the music room, and during break times in the morning, you can always hear the sound of drums. It was by a junior who’s a year younger, and he was really good. I was a pretty shy kid but when I saw this junior on the drums, I thought, ‘Wow, the drums could be this cool.’ At that point of time, I really liked BUMP OF CHICKEN (band), and then that junior told me, ‘BUMP OF CHICKEN’s songs are really cool right’. Around 2 days after he said that, he could already play their song! I personally had always only played string instruments similar to the violin, and could only ever imagine the main melody on a guitar, but after that I could also imagine the melody after listening to the drums at the back! That part really touched me."
That was something fresh wasn’t it. → "I guess it was because I’d always been playing the violin that now gave me an interest in percussion. From then on, I started to play the drums each day and learning from that junior on my own became a fun thing."
What kind of band did you form in high school? → "I got into the light-music cub, and firstly I had to pick an instrument I wanted to play. From there, the members were chosen at random by seniors and that’s how we were formed. All of us were first years…girls that were all pretty stubborn I think. There was 4 of us, all girls."
So it’s like that. How did you all go about playing the songs? → "In the start we mainly copied songs by GO!GO!7188 and Green Day. After some time, we completely stopped the activities of the light-music club and the band was dissolved. After that, the bassist and I started another new band with a female friend of hers."
Another girl-band I see. → "Yeah. We were finally starting from the basics after entering the light-music club in high school but after some time, we weren’t able to have any more activities. I don’t really know what happened in the end, but after that we kept trying continue the band, to get members in the studio, trying to get something out of it. In the beginning, we did several covers of JUDY AND MARY, but between Summer ~ Autumn of year 2, the band simply dissolved on its own. Because of that, there was a period of a year which I never even touched the drums."
Was that when you started your modeling work? → "That is right. I wanted to try modeling so I applied for it. Around the time where my third year in high school ended, I started modeling actively. And then I entered university and met Suu, thus starting another band."
Did feelings of playing in a band ever disappear in between? → "No, I’ve always wanted to play in a band. Even in first or second year of middle school. If not I wouldn’t have gotten to meet and start a band with Suu. That’s why I think the ‘power of meeting’ somebody is amazing."
- Interview with Silent Siren’s Ainyan (Yamauchi Aina / Bass)→:
- Following on, please tell us how you started music Ainyan. → "the first time I ever touched an instrument was back in high school. My brother who is 2 years older than me played the bass guitar and when I went to a live performance of his, I’d thought, ‘The bass guitar is really cool.’"
So your brother was a bassist. → "Yes. I didn’t quite know how to play the bass, and in the beginning I’d always mixed it up with the guitar but when I went to a live house performance and saw how the low sound is amplified with an amplifier, I started to gain interest in the bass. At the start, my brother taught me and let me play on his bass guitar, but in year 2 of high school, I entered a band with a friend who’s a year younger than I am. From there, we formed a ‘band circle’ with several people from our hometown…"
A ‘band circle’? → "Yes. My friend was the vocalist, and I was the bassist. The guitarist and drummer were people we knew from a university. I also got to know some people of the same age from my part-time job at a cafe, and those people invited more people from our hometown so we ended up with about 10 or so boys and girls."
How were your activities like? → "It is a ‘circle’, meaning we also have meals together, go out and have fun together…stuff that’s entertaining. From that circle, we also formed a girls band that practiced once per week and got to do a live also. It pretty much continued 2~3 years into my university days. The band members were not fixed, for example within the circle, we could also form a vocal band! Or we could form something from the members who liked Chatmonchy or Shiina Ringo! That’s how it’s done."
From year 2 of high school till 3rd year of university is pretty long! Tell us your experience from that time till Sai Sai was formed. → "While the vocalist was really doing this for real, the other kids had real life jobs…with that, the band naturally dissolved… At that point of time, I was working on my modeling job and as I was asked by Hinanchu whom I knew from doing the same part-time job, we decided to form Silent Siren."
- Interview with Silent Siren’s Yukarun (Kurosaka Yukako / Keyboard)→:
- Lastly, it’s Yukarun. Tell us the history of how you begun pursuing music. → "For band-related work, Sai Sai was the first I ever had. In the first-half of my years in grade school, I had picked up the piano, however I only played sometimes on the piano I had at home. While I was schooling, I was almost always busy with my club activities in rhythmic gymnastics."
When you knew you were in Silent Siren, did you feel uncomfortable or unsure then? → "In past lives, I’d watched only as part of the audience so of course I was nervous, but hearing the calls (of the audience) always made me feel happy, which is a big part for me. Sai Sai doesn’t perform like the usual band; We also need to appeal ‘visually’. While I was doing gymnastics during my school days I’d also been to matches, and to lead seems like a fun thing to do. I like Sai Sai’s music above anything else!"
Clearly in the live the day before (from the Silent Siren Live Tour 2013), you have your hand up in the air higher than anyone, which gives the audience an impression that you want them to hype up. → "In actuality when I entered the band, I found playing and singing the chorus and being in tune with the choreography…doing all 3 things at one shot, to be difficult. But because I’m doing that alone and it is a different kind of difficulty, that makes it all the more enjoyable!"

Mainstream ArtistI don't really follow them, but as far as I can see ( or hear LOL ). They're going quite the opposite compared with Scandal. While Scandal's getting more pop nowadays, Saisai sounds more rock compared when they started
So, it's confirmed that Hinanchu will come to Indonesia?

Same, don't really follow them that much, but they're not bad at all. Although Suu's voice exactly isn't my cup of tea, it's still alright. Haha Escape was like Shunkan for me I like Ainyan's singing in Starmine though.Tomomi and Ainyan, the bass/vocals~~
Seems like Saisai is gaining popularity in Japan: their sales, rankings and popularity really are more or less like SCANDAL's, if not even better. Good for them~ Eventually, they'll probably be as famous as SCANDAL and other girl bands like Chatmonchy IMO.
Dunno about SCANDAL going more pop though, just more of the strings of recent songs being released, but then again, Awanai is 'straight rock' and 24 Jikan is more garage/punk-ish (?) They've always been like this since the start. Sometimes they'll go for a more rock-ish sound, sometimes they'll go with more pop. Same goes for Saisai, although they do orientate more towards pop and there's no escaping poppy synths cause there's Yukarun (who's awesome btw). Their first single Sweet Pop! was like what they wanted the public to think of them and was for first impressions, and it was pure pop. SCANDAL went full on not-pop with Doll lol, from the headbanging and the actual lyrics of not being a 'good girl', it sent something rebellious across~ Very different directions in the beginning :/
Another thing in this long post is that Saisai should move more! In Sweet Pop!, they seemed so stiff and just moving side to side with smiles plastered on their faces... no offense to any fans, of course.
Keep going, Saisai, you're doing an awesome job!

ModeratorI don't think Silent Siren will be more on the rock side of things compared to Scandal, simply because of the voice type of their main vocals. It is really more suited for what they are doing right now -pop.raynsity wrote:I don't really follow them, but as far as I can see ( or hear LOL ). I think vocal sharing might widen the range of their music.

Mainstream ArtistI probably got confused. Their latest music have some punk sound too it, especially Beat Sunlight, but probably more on the pop punk side. However, "Escape" sounded rock to me.alrick13 wrote:I don't think Silent Siren will be more on the rock side of things compared to Scandal, simply because of the voice type of their main vocals. I don't really think having a certain vocal type would limit your ability to go into rock, especially in Japan. LOL. Tomomi and Aoyama Sachiko from Negoto are the best examples I can use, but that's another case.
About Hinanchu coming to Indonesia. Actually she hasn't come yet. Some rumors are saying that she will come in November (I think?) to visit her sister. (So she has a sister?)
