I think among their 3 major albums Baby Action will garner the most mixed opinions... the good thing for sure is that their musicality is not stagnant, just hope that in this process of evolving they will learn the styles that endeared them to fans and make use of it in the future...

Track 2: is very catchy, now I'm suffering from LSS from it

after listening all (i spoiled it since this is SCANDAL's program, we should listen), i give my stance.

overall, i can say they are experimenting all sorts of style in this album. and apart from all the songs from singles inside, i find their new songs RAW, so raw to an extent i'm getting unusual about it. but after all, this is the 1st time the girls set their own album, own tone, own music in this way, so this a big plus.

all of the songs played, Appletachi no Dengon, Tokyo Skyscrapper, Sono Toki, Sekai wa Kimi Darake no Rain, and one piece very good. GLAMOROUS YOU on the other hand, surprise me, cause i thought it would have the same standard as SCANDAL BABY or EVERYBODY SAY YEAH. maybe is this unfamiliarity makes me feels this album raw.

must listen to few times then you can see where they are setting this. this new Raw, in my opinion, is their improved music. they played better, a lot of different styles but wonderfully done.

side note: why no BURN?? that's RINA composed one. NO WAY D:

Good answer and I feel the same way about what I've heard so far. The "rough" setup is really working out. The songs are more upbeat, faster and way hookier than BEST SCANDAL but the "sound" is old SCANDAL. You're right about the hybrid nature, the rougher, rock sound of BEST SCANDAL plus the pop sensibilities of TB plus increased tempo (!). In a way, I think this is them remaining true to their roots while showing off their new found chops and confidence.

Also true is that "old school" feel. I didn't quite know how to put that in words. Some of the posted stuff especially Appletachi and Skyscraper somehow reminds me of anime and tokusatsu themes from the 80s. Or maybe I'm imagining it and getting nostalgic in my old age Happy

Overall, I'm pleased that the girls aren't getting complacent and standing still. Definitely not from the "it ain't broke don't fix it school"

And MAMI saying disco when talking about Skyscraper? Ho yeah! Check that bassline and drumming..

Baby Action is one of most RAW album from SCANDAL..Guitar scratch is so RAW from HARUNA and MAMI, RINA drum beat is fast and upbeat, TOMO bassline is more powerful..no doubt.

and what i catch from BA album is.. hmmmmm ...This is TOMO album...TOMOMI dominating in many song from BA...no doubt, TOMO Bass is nice especially TOKYO SKYSCRAPER, and TOMO voice is everywhere.

. the style is very different, more pop-like, but i likey. can't wait to own the album + photobook.

A rough translation of what RINA said one piece is about:

"This song is about the future, written about when a dream came true. A dream that we've always been talking about is doing a one-man live at Osaka Jou Hall. The day that that dream came true, the place we dreamed about, it was written while imagining the scenery we first saw when we opened our eyes. Since we wrote about something that would happen in the past as present, we had to make sure that we properly remember everything, and because we made this song, we want the dream that we never think will happen to come true. For that day, doing our best every day, one step at a time, singing this song together with everyone at Jou Hall is our dream, and a promise we made with each other." (by RINA)

"True to their roots", indeed. And I'm thankful that they are. (For this album, at least.) I must say though, and I think I mentioned this already in another thread, that I do miss their old sound. And so when I listened to the album tracks, part of me was glad that they did "go back" in some way. But of course, being the ever-evolving group of gorgeous and talented women that they are, they mixed it up with their "brand new chops" and a bit of experimenting with this old-school feel. And what they ended up with is yet another pleasant surprise for us fans. :)

The anime/tokusatsu reference is spot-on! Haha. I guess we owe that to the "horns section" in Appletachi and SKYSCRAPER. (Again, something new from them. And I applaud them for that, because it worked wonders for both songs.) And the bassline and the drums in SKYSCRAPER, damn... Now that's "funky". Never thought I'd say that about a SCANDAL song. But it is, and it's awesome. :D

Thanks for translating that bit on one piece. Was actually wondering about what they were talking about, myself. :P We will all be waiting for that dream to happen, for sure. If anyone deserves it, it's them. :)

Plus, it would make for an awesome concert DVD as well. Just think: First, Ebisu Liquid Room for the BEST SCANDAL DVD. Then, Zepp Tokyo for the TEMPTATION BOX DVD... What could top those off more than a show at Osaka-jou Hall for the BABY ACTION DVD? It's probably a long-shot, but if it did happen, that would just be freaking epic. :D
