I have a drawer FULL of deathmetal and stuff like it. All tapes I bought when I was a wee lad back in the late 80s. Sepultura (old Sepul, I don't really dig their new stuff), Morbid Angel, Entombed, Kreator, Death, Benediction, Napalm Death (Harmony Corruption!!), mid vintage Carcass etc etc

Keep in mind these are old bands and the songs I will mention are old songs. Check these out for a sample of old school death!

Carcass - Corporeal Jigsore Quandary, Incarnate Solvent Abuse, Exhume to Consume, Heartwork - Note: Carcass started out as a grindcore band, but gradually softened and merged styles as time went by. More deathgrind than pure death metal.
Sepultura - Troops of Doom, Beneath The Remains, Inner Self
Kreator - Coma of Souls
Napalm Death (also deathgrind but Harmony Corruption was more death than grind) - Malicious Intent, Suffer the Children
Death - Scream Bloody Gore

If you want to explore more extreme metal, try grindcore. Terrorizer for example. You will like it. Really. Check out the song Dead Shall Rise. Awesome.

It just occurred to me that I'm posting this on a SCANDAL forum. I feel weird... Hey, you think the girls would be able to appreciate extreme metal like these?

From my junior high..I've listen to Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura (old stuff is the best!! Hail Max!)..college-Slipknot, Lamb Of God, Rammstein (metal or industrial?), Trivium (lil bit)..and DMC (Detroit Metal City)
When I listened to deathmetal record, my ears seems cannot adjust it, but when there's a band in my campus play it..I'm sooo absorbed!! .whistle.
Well, SCANDAL will accept that. Remember, Mami loved DMC (this heavy enough for them,bro!)..have u heard them?

For the Carcass, Morbid Angel etc, I only remember the photo I've seen in the magazine around my teen-age, the blood drinker vocalist! .nosebleed..

@macdyne73: Thanks for the reply! I will check those bands. I think it's okay that they're old; it's better to start listening to old school than new school if you are a death metal "virgin" imo. About SCANDAL, I guess they would appreciate it if they would just listen to it constantly. But I don't think their manager would allow that. hehe

@jigoku79: I remember HARUNA mention DMC in an interview. btw, I watched the movie but not the anime and I never knew there was really a true band . So, do they have albums and stuff like that? Do they perform live?

On the haruna's fashion check video, isn't it? When Mami said that Haruna shoulder accessories looks like Krauser-san..But, it's Mami who loved the DMC.
Naah, it's only for the movie soundtrack, I guess. Tetsuya Kanmuri did the vocals for DMC..

Whoa! Didn't think there'd be some hardcore metal guys on this forum. Can't believe I missed this thread.

@DUL7: Great suggestions by macdyne73. Try giving these a listen as well:

Dismember - Override of the Overture (probably my fave death metal song of all time)
Morbid Angel - God of Emptiness (slow but extremely brutal. Make sure you at least reach the "Bow to me" part.)
Entombed - Chaos Breed (classic death metal, but their newer stuff is rather meh)

I also love At the Gates and Dissection, but they aren't strictly death metal. Still kick-ass nonetheless.

I think the PI is also having a resurgence in the metal scene. I've heard of bands like Sin, Pentavia, Bloodshedd, etc. Or if you want to go old school, Skychurch. You can also search "Sa Kabilang Anyo ng Buhay" on YT for some early-90's Pinoy death metal.

And finally, speaking of DMC, anyone else here watch Metalocalypse? It's pretty much the American version of DMC, except it's extremely graphic and some of the scenes play out like a Cannibal Corpse album cover. It's one of my fave cartoons right now and the new season starts on April 29. You should definitely check it out if you like death metal (or just dark humor).

Yay I found the metal topic .clap. I knew there had to be one here. Anyway some of my favorites include Disturbed, Iron Maiden, System of a Down, Dio, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Rage Against the Machine, and the list could continue for days. Alice in Underground have my attention lately. Scandal is probably as "light" as I go.

As bastard crossbreed of old times - half punk, half metal - I do not care for classifications - all those death/nu/melodic/trash etc. means nothing. I divide music in two categories - "Me gusta" or "Me likeh not". And many metal bands I like a lot.
I was overjoyed when on first Sonisphere concert of Big4 I saw Belladonna back with Antrax - it was THE best performance of this show - they were having as much fun as we in the crowd.
From other, not mentioned here, bands I would like to recommend You Blind Guardian - a must for every Tolkien fan

Yes we should've not recognize the labels, and your experience to that event was great!

I only watched here in PH BFMV and Asking Alexandria, which both gave their best performance...

Too many classifications for sure. That is why its hard to get good music on the radio now. Blind Guardian are indeed very nice.

I'm a big fan of Godsmack, Metallica, Rammstein, Nightwish. My last metal finds are "Amaranthe", a mix of metal and a pop voice. It sounds really good IMO. And also big crush on "Crucified Barbara". Those girls are badass !!

How did I forget about Godsmack? Nice call darksider59. I will have to check Amaranthe and Barb out. I always did prefer female vocals.

To add notorious Fins to list - crazy "folkmetal" - Korpiklaani. Can be not to everyone's taste, but me gusta. A lot.

I grew up listening to metal (thanks to my uncles) however I'm not so into the genre but that doesn't mean I dislike it; I listen to it occasionally and metal genres I'm attracted to are power/death/progressive metal.

I agree with the "no classification" position. I'm not married with any genre (I'm kinda married with many bands, though).

In general I like european heavy/power metal bands like:

- Sonata Arctica (fav band ever)
- Iron Maiden
- Blind Guardian
- Children of Bodom
- Old Helloween + Gamma Ray


I don't like metalcore in general. I play in a metalcore band, though.

I happen to like mostly heavy, thrash metal and metal core. My favorite bands would be Metallica, Megadeth, Bullet for my Valentine and Slipknot.

Thank You for recommending Destrose - quite nice metalish band. A little to visual for me, maybe, but at least less so than Exist Trace
