I like a lot of Japanese artists, most of them I've heard as their songs were used in anime but the ones that I listen to most of the time are:
SCANDAL, ONE OK ROCK, and Morning Musume.

Aside from SCANDAL, a lot of Japanese musical artists that I like are either not that big in Japan yet or are not popular here in the Philippines (where I live). Some of them are:

Update on my list from more than a year ago. Only top 3 is in order.
1. SCANDAL - definitely, there's no other artist that will ever make me shed tears of joy during their concert.
2. Sonar Pocket - I'm disappointed how unknown they are internationally. Even if they are a pop group that doesn't dance or jam, that shouldn't be a reason how unknown these guys are out of Japan. I highly recommend them to anyone with any interest in non idol or non rock groups. Artist with the best song to emo to: Shitsuren ~Kimi wa Ima, Shiawase Desuka?
3. Ieiri Leo - Strong powerful voice, exactly the type that I like. Shine is definitely her best song for me
4. Porno Graffitti - awesome 2 man rock group. I love screaming along to 2012spark when I'm alone at home
5. Ken Hirai - Good for when I'm in the mood for romance or sad songs, but his fast songs are pretty catchy too.
6. EXILE - One of the top 5 most listened to artiste in my Japanese playlist. In particular, This is My Life is a pretty good song to sing along to.
7. EXILE ATSUSHI - The biggest reason why EXILE is good in the first place. Awesome vocals. Nuff said
8. Mr. Children - As they say, old is gold
9. flumpool - I don't really listen to heavy rock bands, so these guys fit the bill for me. Lead singer has a pretty good voice imo. And their one and only Chinese song sounds good too.
Special mentions: Matsushita Yuya, ikimonogakari, LiSA
