So, the ticket sale dates have been announced. For non official Scandal fan club members, it appears that March 1st is the earliest tickets can be purchased, and that seems to be only from their website. General ticket sales appear to be a few days later.

Anyone able to give advice on how to purchase tickets, or should we wait a bit more to find out what points of sale they have available? A friend and I are planning on coming to Japan for the show next year, and I absolutely want to make sure I have tickets if I'm going to be flying 12+ hours just to see it

I wonder if the forum will organize a group buy or is everyone on their own?
A group buy would be nice if these are reserved seating tickets.

Also, with 1,000's of people now planning for the concert, how soon should we book a nearby hotel?

This FAQ explains the difference in the system of how concert tickets are sold in Japan which I think is useful to understand. If you think you know how to buy tickets based on your own experience in the US or Europe, you're in for a surprise.

Also, you could try googling 'concert tickets in Japan' as that is how I learnt stuff - there's a wealth of info from sites that help out gaikokujin buy tickets!

That sounds like a good idea only if you have a group of like-minded friends in your local area. Personally, I think it's a logistical nightmare if one person in, say, the US sorts tickets out for SH members outside the US. I know of people who do what you suggested but they tend to be friends already, so there won't be trust issues for example.

UPDATE

The location of the concert has been announced which is in Izumiotsu, near Osaka.

It's an outdoor show (think Lollapalooza/Woodstock/Glasto etc etc) but we know that already. So, if this is like any other outdoor show in Japan, there shouldn't be any issue of 'seats' as a show like this will be general admission. Which means you just buy a ticket at face value. A friend went to see the RIJ show and tickets were general admission.

General Admission tickets sounds a lot easier. But, now you have to show up really early for the best spots.

How early do you generally see people lining up for these types of events?

I don't know, really - as I have been to see an outdoor show just the once in my life.

I saw the Foo Fighters at Hyde Park in London a long time ago and we turned up at 2:30PM and the first band started at like 4PM. We were front-ish in the general ticket crowd but they had a golden circle area so we weren't near the stage at all. lol. And the Foos didn't play until 9! 80,000 people were at the show that day.

For the Izumiotsu Phoenix SCANDAL show, it states that entry starts at 1PM with the show likely to commence at 4.30 PM. Common sense dictates people prolly make their way late morning for this?

I went ahead a reserved a hotel somewhat near the venue to minimize my travel time on the day of the concert. If I find something better I can always change it but at least I have something locked in before the choices start to become slim.

I'm interested, but will have to wait and see how this plays out on SH.

Food prices can vary depending on where you want to go, and what you want to eat. I personally NEVER spend more than ¥1,000 on a meal.

A McDonalds meal will cost you around ¥650. However, there is an awesome ramen restaurant in Shinsaibashi that does a HUGE bowl of ramen, side of gyoza, and a side of rice for ¥880. So like I said, the prices and quantity will vary.

On the other hand, at events, festivals and concerts there will be "street food" which you can expect to pay roughly ¥300-¥600 for a small portion of something, like chicken, or Takoyaki. It's just something to keep you going rather than a meal.

Goes to show the world's your oyster. If you have cash to burn you can spend more than a 1000円 a meal (I once went overboard at a revolving sushi restaurant), but I agree with hybrid3415 that a simple yet filling meal can be had for cheap.

The same weekend?!!! I sincerely hope this will not hamper the numbers for SCANDAL's show. One thing for sure though - Osaka will be a little bit busier than usual - just to be mindful when looking for accommodation for that weekend.

I would love to go for this but I'm busy saving for life things unfortunately, but I've have been to Japan 3 times now with the most recent trip being in November last year, mostly in the Tokyo area though so it probably be much help in Osaka but I'm happy to help wherever I can ^_^

firstly I suggest a Japanese phrase book, most people in Japan don't know a lot of english unless they have studied it to degree level and/or bilingual so helpful phrases here and there go a long way.  Most places have Wi-Fi hotspots such as the usual coffee places like Starbucks and the like, I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone not to use mobile data abroad unless you want a hefty phone bill.

New question about the concert. Tickets are going to go on sale shortly (the band tweeted that the Scandal Mania members would be able to buy tickets starting midnight tonight (Japan time, I assume). I believe that tickets would be made available to the general public shortly thereafter, at the beginning of the month.

For anyone who has purchased tickets for larger venue Japanese shows, what is the best suggestion for purchasing tickets from overseas?

The MANIA pre-sale lottery has been open since 2/17. They tweeted that it's closing tonight at midnight Japan time. And yes, the first tickets for the public will be made available from 3/1 with their official homepage pre-sale lottery.

About tickets, there are basically 2 options (I've done both myself):

1) Try for tickets through one of the pre-sale lotteries
2) Get them from Yahoo! Auctions/ticket reselling sites when sellers start receiving their tickets (which is probably going to be May/early June at the earliest)

It just depends on your preference and budget, honestly.

We don't yet know how entry will work, but they just recently announced that there will be two different gate times. Presumably, the 'better' tickets with an earlier door time will possibly be from MANIA (and/or CLUB SCANDAL, even) and will give ticket holders preference into the venue.

If you'd like to try for MANIA ones, you'd have to wait until May/June until they start popping up on YJA and the like, but be prepared to spend at least triple/quadruple/quintuple+ the price of face value tickets on tickets alone--not to mention shopping service fees, which get higher the more expensive the tickets are.

If you'd like to try for the public pre-sales, you'd have to have a shopping service enter you. Tickets are technically not guaranteed, though, because it is a lottery. But if you do get them, at least you'd only be paying face value for the tickets, plus applicable shopping service fees.

General sales will be on 21 May. The band would be updating their websites/social media sites with the finer details before then.

It'll usually be these sites - e-plus, pia and the like.

I finally managed to gain access to my Scandal Mania account (it turns out that the password is just the mobile number you registered with!) and was able to enter myself into the lottery for two tickets.

I'm currently waiting for the confirmation of the lottery, so when they results come in I can head down to Lawson and pay for them! I'll let you know the results soon
