According to the Oricon site, it looks like the single was no. 5 on their first day. 

It's actually pretty good compared to the other more-popular artists that released their singles on the same day. I think that Yoake no Ryuuseigun's eventual total sale of numbers won't be determined by how well they do on the charts in the first few weeks though. Pokemon is definitely gonna play in the theaters for a while due to its popularity with kids and families so I think that's something else to look out for.

EDIT: Damn ichi-san was faster! =P You make a very good point about the movie in theaters, this could boost the sales on the long term but not help them on day 1 or week 1 hopefully it can sell great over the weeks, longer than their other single.

Well in any case was hoping for a bit better but as I mentioned it's not a big deal to not get #1, just a bonus. But hoping that they can reach good sale numbers... Not sure what or if the Pokémon staff/company expects something with the single but having great sales would be positive for SCANDAL so they could be associated again with Pokémon or another big brand. anyways, let's see what daily rank they can reach each day, go SCA-chan  .love.

I wonder how big is scandal overseas fandom and how much it influence their cds sales
#5 is a good debute day, big names releasing their single on the same day, but lately oricon charts does mean nothing. a good and succesfull product have a long life chart, doesn't truly mean it does sell 100'000+ copies and debute #1. yoake could have already sold something between 20'000 - 30'000 which is not bad for scandal standards

anyway, as the single was release on itunes.jp (it seems its not charting yet) departure boots up on recochoku at #61 today ahaha. just a matter of time for yoake to go well on digital, surely after people will attend the pokemon film. it will be easier (and cheaper) for them to just buy the song that the full single

The song appears once in the movie right? Or is in the movie + the ending theme or something?

actually I got news some times ago from an online shop here in Indonesia (rvn-musikindo). He received Japan CD/DVD order, including helping us buy from CDJapan and I have been his customer for 3 years so I think he's trustable.
Well, he said that he got news from CDJ that Oricon doesn't count CD's which sold internationally anymore. The reason is that overseas customer is increasing rapidly and Oricon doesn't want it to give big impact to their rank. Basically they just want to count the sales within Japan.
So, overseas fans cannot help Japan artist to get their Oricon rank up, except if we buy it directly in Japan.

Anyway, please correct me if I'm wrong.

You mean if Oricon says the CD sold for 30k it's 30.000 japanese people who bought the CDs? But maybe they sold 100k international?

I don't see how this is possible unless each shop has to categorize each sale as "sold in Japan - sold international".

Sorry for butting in, but that info is indeed true. Besides SCANDAL, I also follow a couple of JE groups, and it was one of the major concerns of the international fans. As you can see, the tweet is from a hyphen (name of KAT-TUN fandom). She emailed CDJapan if the rumor is true, and CDJ confirmed it - that shipments shipped outside Japan are not counted, regardless of the online store you purchase your items.

Anyway, a true fan would still buy the original album, regardless if it counts in the Oricon or not. I've read somewhere that Billboard Japan does count international sales though.

I just finished listening to the song, and I already liked it from first listen. I've stopped following SCANDAL for awhile because for some reason, I can't get into their latest singles. But this new single might bring me back~

Well the good point is that they sell more than the official oricon numbers. For example Departure sold 35.526 copies but in Japan only according to this info. But we all know they have international fans so maybe they sold 40k, 50k... We will never know. Probably only the musical industry knows, they get surely full reports with full datas.

It doesn't change that much, oricon still tells us how good SCANDAL is IN Japan. But all the numbers are Japan only which means if one artists/band has a lot of international fans (like SCANDAL?!) then they are doing even better than everyone thinks.

But we cannot know what % of international fans they have... If it's only like 10% of their sales then it's not a big deal but if it's 40% or even 50%... then actually SCANDAL is doing much much better than everyone realizes. Maybe some other bands in Japan seems to have the same sale numbers but then only have 5% international fans so overall they sell much much less than SCANDAL... Not sure if I'm clear enough xD

The fact is that SCANDAL cares about their international fans (or at least tries to do their best to) so that could mean their international sale % is significant enough and they know the international market is important for them.

Not sure why Oricon simply didn't evolve and propose all the datas like "sales volume in Japan, sales volume International, Digital sales, etc".

Would be nice to know the % of their international sales.
I hope one day the international sales would climb to 20-40% lol
Anyways, counted or not I'll still keep on buying their singles/albums.

oricon wants only japanese sales IN shops. neither cds sold at concert venues are counted the same as regular sales in shops. they are so outdated sometimes, they doesn't count digital sales too ugh
only way (if someone is interested) to support the band on oricon charts should be buying with sony music jp. all the other sites are "useless" for the charts, but still good for supporting the band oc

Simply put, it seems they are the only ones measuring the sales in Japan but the only thing they give us is the sales of the CDs in physical stores sold in Japan... No digital sales, no international sales or even CDs sold at concert venues from what reilachii says.

I mean this is ridiculous. Why don't they simply evolve and count everything and then display the total number of sales and under it each "category". Like that everyone is happy and the sales/chart/ranking make sense. Maybe SCANDAL sells 150k of each single but only around 35k in Japan with Oricon way of counting. So weird.

I'm not sure if Oricon works that way, but I believe so. Contrary to what popular belief says, Japan as a whole is old fashioned in so, so many ways. If something is made in this way since decades ago, and it works somehow for them, they will not change at all. Even if it doesn't make any sense, or if it's not the most efficient way to work. Sorry if I'm sounding like one of those "I know it all about Japan", I really don't, but that's what people who lived there for years say, and we can see that from things like this, or how japanese bands, SCANDAL included, promote themselves so badly to international fans.

About SCANDAL's popularity overseas, I would say it's proportional to their popularity in Japan. I mean, the top japanese artists, such as Arashi and AKB48, would probably have large fanbases overseas, as they do in Japan, so in terms of rankings, I think SCANDAL would stay as they are even if overseas sells are counted. Of course, in terms of raw numbers, their sells would rise, but so would do other artists'.

SCANDAL already contributed with some big name animes, such as Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist, and I'm sure that helped people get to know the band, but that was back in the day, when they were starting as a band. And if I'm not wrong, in Japan, Pokémon is mostly enjoyed by kids, so I believe this time an anime theme song won't push SCANDAL too far away from what they could do by themselves...

The #3 single has 7833 sales so I guess Yoake is closer to 7k or to 6k today. Not sure I like it they use the Pokémon Edition cover but I guess it makes sense ^^

Still slightly disappointed that they don't reach the top 3 or better but oh well. As ichiruki! said the Pokémon movie will surely have the same effect as Bleach/FMA on Shoujo S/Shunkan and help the single over the next weeks.

It's just that I was hoping that Pokémon could give them that big first day release at #1 you know... but I guess they are not there yet. In a few months or years maybe, SCANDAL world domination is still young
