This is kind of a random topic, but popped up after an incident creating and editing a page on generasia wiki.

I shifted the page of Ieiri Leo's new single "miss you" to match the correct stylization (it was displayed as "Miss You"), and I got a PM from one of the admins saying I shouldn't do that, since song titles were properly capitalized regardless of stylization.

I'm a stickler for proper stylization, as shown how I always type SCANDAL instead of Scandal, how I always type their song titles in full caps if need be, and how I always type member names in full caps. To me I feel that incorrect stylization is a form of disrespect to the artiste, because that is not how the artiste wants us to read his name or his song title, and that's my reply to that admin.

I also just straight out told that admin that if he wanted to stylize everything the same way then he should be changing the SCANDAL (band) page on generasia to Scandal (band) and not just be nitpicking on song titles. I admit that change would piss me off further but I probably won't be so bitter due to double standards between artistes and song titles.

Just wanted to gather some general opinion on the thoughts of people here about this.

I care more now than I used to. I use all caps for SCANDAL and the members' names, and I've retitled all my song info to make sure the titles match how they are written on the official releases. That includes all caps and using Japanese characters, whereas I used to put romaji when I hadn't yet started studying Japanese.

I'm also switching over song titles for other artists. My only problem now is whether I should change Japanese artists' names to kanji. I would have to change a lot of them, and are sorted in an odd way (for me it seems to be by kanji stroke count) instead of alphabetically by romaji, making it harder to find them in my media player library. I would be fine with changing them to kanji if they sorted by gojūon order, but that doesn't seem to be possible.

Personally, I don't like stuff all writen in caps. When you gotta respect some kind of protocol (like wikipedia, generasia, or even this forum in some cases), I follow the rules, because they're rules, but the rest of the time it's just do what I prefer in that moment.

I don't think typing the name of an artist in a way different from the official it's some kind of lack of respect. My closest friends and family are registered in my phone with all weird and stupid names, and I love and respect them all. It's not exactly the same, but I hope you get the idea.

For me, I'm usually somewhat flexible when it comes to the stylization of these things. When it comes to using names of artists and their songs in some kind of documented setting (e.g. a wiki page, news article) I would much prefer the proper spelling and formatting as-is. The Japanese band we all know and love is "SCANDAL" and Paramore's 3rd album is "brand new eyes", as written on the front of the record. If the artist wrote it that way, it shall be presented like that for the world to see.

When I write out these names in a more casual setting, I'm okay with skipping out on capitalization. In places like the chat box or social media, I'll go ahead and use "Scandal" or "scandal". When I mention the band members, however, 95% of the time I'll go with their common first names rather than the all-caps stage names.

And for me, Japanese song titles are written, formatted, or edited to the appropriate romaji all the time. It's just easier to read and look up. I can't read Japanese for the life of me so it's a reading aid.

Yes I agree this is an interesting topic, it is not something people bother much about in England, bands name will be printed a different way on different posters, but I know it is very different in Japan.
I am not too mad on all caps either as it sounds like people are shouting !
I follow many Indie idols on twitter and getting their name right is important to them, for example ANNA*S got upset when I left the star out between the ANNA and the S.

My Japanese sucks but I can read AKB48's names in Kanji as I have been a fan since 2006, so I feel it does not really matter how you write their name in English as that is not their real name anyway.
