I don't know when the kind of Japan Expo started in London but if you don't know, in France Japan Expo started in 1999. This year, in 2012 it was the 13th edition, so it's normal if there are a lot of people who went.
Also, you can check the evolution of Japan Expo visitors here and you'll notice that in the beginning there were not as many people as now.
After, as I said before, if they come to Europe for a world tour, they will be obliged to perform in at least 2 other countries. So let's imagine France is the first European country with the most of fans, do you think there are also 2 countries in Europe which have more fans than UK?

I'm not going to dispute your first statement because it's actually true, but "America" is actually two continents, North and South.

Although you have to acknowledge that the majority of the rest of the world calls us "Americans" too..
