I really liked Clannad, Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu for its storyline and Great Teacher Onizuka is a awesome classic anime and its damn funny! And oh ya! Fairy Tail!!!

~If you're looking for historical and military scene, then try watch Allisson and Lilia, I find it very realistic and I learned a lot about war, families and commitment.

~try also Chihayafuru, about a traditional card game in Japan, just stop watching romance/action for the meantime and start watching different genre.

Kara no kyoukai: garden of sinners- Very good animation with a dark story, May get a bit confusing but if you're familiar with nasuverse(fate/stay night's philosopy?) you'll understand the concepts behind it .ehem.
Shiki - Traditional vampires, new mysterious family arrives in the village, then mysterious deaths occured, had a tragic ending but has a good story
Mai-HiME - Your typical mahou shoujo anime with an unexpected twist in the middle.
