Well... I'm mainly into Sci-Fi with a dash of Fantasy and Horror.

Major writers/series I'm into:
H.P. Lovecraft (no other horror writer comes close to his style)
Warhammer 40,000 (tie-in fiction but in recent years has stood on its own in the New York Times Bestsellers list)
Legend of Drizzt (R.A. Salvatore)

and whatever else that catches my eye if I'm wandering a bookstore.

Huge comic fan as well, DC/Marvel/Image etc.

I like sci-fi/fantasy. The largest book series I read was probably the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind. I've also read the Harry Pottery series during a work place book club thing. I've read some books in the Vampire the Masquerade series, Lord of the Rings, etc. My favorite author is Ray Bradbury.

I don't read a lot, and many times I don't remember what I read, but one author I remember is Robin Cook, who writes medical thrillers. Can't say I am able to appreciate the literature, but at least those that I read were enjoyable to read.

Just sharing~~

I like reading Mysteries, Thrillers and Fantasies. I also like to read manga. I don't have a favorite writer. As long it keeps my attention on the story, it's a good book ^-^
Ah.. Stories about the World War II are very interesting too!

About manga.. *looks at bookshelf* I have my small collection :3

Cool, I've also read the Harry Potter series, started way back when I was still a kid (it is over 10 years old already), Lord of the Rings is something which I remember vaguely as being very very long (also read that ages ago).

Interesting, I only have a small manga collection since you can find chapters released online much earlier than waiting for a tankobon to be published. I have a couple of bookshelves (yes more than 1 bookshelf) and boxes of comics, which is why I stopped buying them, don't have the physical space to store them anymore Tongue

^^ It took me awhile before I was really into Harry Potter xD I started to get into the Harry Potter series after watching the 1st movie and after that I was hooked ever since .chesttap. I also have a very small manga collection too but stopped collecting them since I grew tired of collecting them. I'm a pretty big book reader and pretty much into fantasy/sci-fi stuff like the Sword of Truth series, The Well of Echoes, stuffs by Katherine Kerr to name a few. For magazines I read pretty much football, computers and games magazines.

WOW!!! It's here!!! <3

sorry, what do I read? Ummm well before I was sixteen, I loved fantasy. Like I believed that Raymond E Feist's Magician was the pinnacle of literature. And then I realised that everything that came after Magician seemed too tacked on. But other things I liked at the time were Kate Forsyth's Witches of Eileanan, Garth Nix's Sabriel ... who didn't read Eragon? XD And Tamora Pierce, a must for a lot of girls. XD

But after studying classical English lit in senior school, it's been like Jane Austen all the way. Or something to that effect. More on this later. lol

I rarely read anything on paper. When I do I go for sci-fi, fantasy or horror. Some comic books. Used to read much more but I almost stopped entirely for now.

I'll echo Nathaniel. Last thing I read was a volume of HP Lovecraft stories last fall.

Hi Nanthaniel !

I really glad you got your book topic started !

I am a HUGE fan of H.P.Lovecraft and have all his books !
My favourite is "The Dunwich Horror", do you have a favourite ?

Have you read any Clark Ashton Smith ?

He was writing at the same time and his stuff is really cool as well.

LOL Lovecraft. /is oblivious. Not really my genre... I think.

The last thing I finished on paper was ... The Secret History by Donna Tartt, finished the Millenium trilogy (with, sadly, far too many loose ends) via audiobooks. XD Oh, wait, the last book I finished was Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones. Still in the middle of: Christopher Paolini's Brisngr, Frances Burney's Evelina, Ian McEwan's Atonement and James Wood's How Fiction Works.

I do read manga, though, and am following Bleach and Soul Eater right now. And I guess Gunslinger Girl when I remember ... and Until Death Do Us Part.

I think my favorite Lovecraft story would probably be At the Mountains of Madness currently, but I just really like his style where most of the conclusion is left to the reader's imagination.

"That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die."

Yes, at "At the mountains of madness" is an excellent and very long story.
H.P.Lovecraft had a horror of being cold so setting the story there made it even more frightening for him !

Did you know he was inspired by the English writer Arthur Machen !
Dunwich is a real town in the south-east of England where I live and it was always a hotbed of witchcraft and Machen wrote a story about it.

Arthur Machen's stories "The great God Pan" and "The novel of the black seal" are both about people who are only half human !

Can I continue along in my own way?

Why do HP Lovecraft's works appeal to you? You can't cheat and just talk about writing style lol.

It is a little like a good horror film.
If you see some silly rubber monster you just think how sad !
It is what you cannot see that is frightening.

H.P.Lovecraft was so good as suggesting horrible things.
You think about it afterwards and then you think "But that is horrible" !
Try one and see, you can get his paperback books really cheap in second hand book shops.

I think some of his works are in the public domain already, anyway yeah his writings makes you stop and think after the story, since his conclusions tend to be pretty vague, and that's what keeps you awake at night Tongue

As a heads up, Lovecraft uses pretty old English, so you might have to re-read certain passages a couple of times to understand what he's saying.

Currently reading "World War Z" by Max Brooks. It's pretty good so far, it's about the zombie apocalypse. I recently found out that Brad Pitt's production company bought the rights to make the movie for it. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be crap.

Oh I've read Max Brooks' works as well World War Z and his handibook about surviving the zombie apocalypse. Really unique take on the zombie genre like how it's actually very psychological when confronted by your loved ones who have turned.

I like Zombie movies and I loved the Resident Evil games but it must be hard
to think of something new for a Zombie film now.

I still think the Goerge Romero movies were the best, in 'Day of the dead'
they were even trying to train Zombies to do jobs !
A Zombie barman ?
No I don't think so !
