So this is a thread about books that you think were pretty good in your opinion. ex. (Harry Potter, twilight; I don't like the series, hunger games) Recommend them here. I'm pretty sure quite a few people here read for a hobby .nerd. so lets start.
Any genre of books are welcome:
I'll begin....
-Cherubs
-Tales of Otori Series
-Matthew Reilly's Jack West Trilogy
-wrong about Japan
-eat, pray, love
(got more but I'll stop here)

If I've put it in the wrong section... just move it but I'm sure it will turn into a discussion so....

I will try Matthew Reilly !
I only recently discovered how many great Japanese writers there are !
"Genji Monogatari" ( Tale of Genji ) by Lady Murasaki Shikibu is probably a little heavy for you ( because I know you are a little younger than me ! )
but try "Yukiguni" ( snow country ) by Kawabata Yasunari.
It is the story of a rich young guy from Tokyo who meet a country geisha, but it is sad like all his books !

Honestly Western literature these days is a shadow of its former self. Twilight? I Am Number Four? Really?

Well, eitherway, I'd recommend the classics, if you're into Japan, Yukio Mishima is always good, and of course the timeless Haruki Murakami. Eiji Yoshikawa writes terrific Sengoku novels, I think you'd enjoy it.

I couldn't agree with you more. It's been ages since I've been looking for books until last week. Those two were the most popular in the store I've been in. Recommend Books or a series? Cz39

Necronomicon, hardcover collection of H.P. Lovecraft's stories, with a creepy picture of Cthulhu on it's cover :o

Without meaning to be unkind to Australian library services I don't think you will find many Japanese writers in Wollongong library !
But you can find them online !
If you are old fashioned like me and still prefer real books CDJapan sell books as well and the shipping to Australia must be less than to England.

BWAH HA HA! I thought I was the only one that read this...

Anyways, I'd go with Isaac Asimov's "The End of Eternity"...

It uses a lot of brain power, so only read it if you want to think and flip back and forth between chapters... Not a book to be read moderately...

Hmm... I'm pretty much a fan of the Tom Clancy's series (assortment of writers) and David Baldacci's Camel Club series.

I prefer suspense in books. :/

I am huge fan of Fantasy and Sci-Fi, gonna recommend Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series and Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game Series.
Both are quite long so beware of losing too much sleep trying to finish them Wink

For Sci-fi I'd recommend:
"The Stars my Destination", one of my all time favourites and sort of based on the Count of Monte Cristo, I've always wished I could Jaunt Tongue
"The Voyage of the Space Beagle", pretty interesting.
"Kil'n people"
hrmm... that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Fantasy:
A song of Ice and Fire is pretty good.
The Malazan Book of the Fallen, pretty long series, and the author doesn't hold your hand and explain everything so it might be a bit hard to get in to for some people.

I'm currently trying to read the classic SciFi book, Ender's Game. Struggling to read A Song of Ice and Fire book 1, Game of Thrones as I find it dragging (though, still a good book overall). Trying to finish the second book of the Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire as it's a short book. A friend also just gave me Battle Royale which I also would recommend since with the hype of The Hunger Games going on XD

Probably the very first books that got me addicted into reading (when I was in 2nd grade I think) was the Chronicles of Narnia. I still re-read them, especially SilverChair (because Jill Pole is my favorite character) especially during brownouts in our area haha
