Reality hit me hard today... .plank. Called up the Japanese Embassy to ask about the Monbukagakusho (Japanese Government) Scholarship... apparently I still need to school a few years more before I'm eligible for it...

So just asking, anyone tried for this scholarship? or has anyone traveled overseas and studied (or is studying) in Japan? How's it like to study there?

I tried to apply for teh scholarship, and it's pretty strict. You have to hit high grades in all subjects for school, and for major tests too. You also need to take some entrance exams, IIRC, depending on which course you are planning to take. If you are planning to be a doctor though, no such luck, there is no scholarship for that.

hmm, I plan on doing graphic design. but the information pdf said that it's listed under "other subjects" which has a lower chance of getting the scholarship... ok man, thanks for the info :D

Not really... design and art courses isn't their priority... unless the university you want to go is dedicated to design courses... like Tama art university for example...

Ahhh~ then i've got almost a 0 % chance!~!~ .waaa.
But i'll work on it!

It's for any country with a Japanese Embassy in it.

o.o how do you check the success rate?

With my soon to be university and the program I will be in (East-Asian studies and History, Japan orientation) I will be able to ask to do a year of studying in Japan. There is also a 5 week trip to Kanazawa, with homestay, special activities and classes. But for all that you have to be in the East-Asian studies...

Homestay? you mean you're staying with a random Japanese family for 5 weeks? o.o I'll feel awkward....
