i think we need to have a backup plan should it rains. either go to the shelter, continue BBQ or go other places and have fun.

If it does rain, the cheapest method would be the aluminum tray one, it would just take 1 or 2 maybe 3 for it to be the same size as the regular BBQ pit. Worse come to worse wait out the rain at the shelter and cook later, but plastic bags would be a must for the pits, both the makeshift one(s) and the original one. Just drape it over the pit and it should shelter the embers long enough to both cook and wait out the rain.
