I was fortunate enough to go and see Genesis last night...
To save me giving a blow-by-blow, here's a pretty good review from 'Rolling Stone'

Genesis were formed in 1967, and two of the original members - Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford were 17 at the time and still in school - so the same as Tomomi and Mami when Scandal were formed. They say this is their last tour, and bearing in mind that the original members are now in their 70s, with Tony and Mike having been in the band for 54 years, it shows what can be done!

Glad to see that Phil Collins' voice is still so beautiful and that his back problems don't prevent him from doing concerts.

Sadly, Phil has had physical problems for over a decade.  He said in a recent interview that he can no longer hold his drum sticks.  It's quite sad because he was such a good drummer, and I know there is a generation of fans that think of him more as a singer (of which he was quite good).

Nice to hear you enjoyed the show.  There are few legacy bands that are still worth catching before it really is done for them.  Too bad they couldn't persuade Peter and Steve to join them for a few songs while in the UK. 

My own relationship with the band's music is a little interesting.  I had a few cassettes back in the 80's, but I never had the desire to acquire their catalog on CD.  I do, however, have every record from the first one to INVISIBLE TOUCH on old vinyl.  For whatever reason this is one of those bands that I point to when discussing the enjoyment of listening to an old analog record as opposed to a new CD.  Perhaps it's a prog thing with me since I have the same feeling with ELP and Yes, but I prefer early Genesis to the other two bands in that same period.

For a musician who never wanted to be the front man, and now unable to stand, so he performed sitting down, Phil really held the audience as frontman. However, he did have the support of a couple of backing vocalists, to help with the higher/sustained notes.

And fortunately, Phil had 'prepared a spare', in that his son Nick (aged 20) was on drums, and in terms of skill really is a chip off the old block.

I've been a fan a Prog Rock since I was a teenager, and seeing as this really is the last opportunity to see Genesis - who I had never seen before - I had to go (although the ticket cost was a bit eye-watering!).

Next February (Covid permitting) I get to go and see The Stranglers - also on their 'last tour'...
