Caless StudentI was wondering, does anyone have any advice for learning transitive and intransitive verbs? Or is it just a matter of memorising them all individually?

Darn, that's the reason why I didn't choose linguistics for my ronbun while in univ...hehe.
Well, actually imo you have to memorized them individually, it's a must, cause you might get misunderstand few of the verbs with the potential form (kanoukei)--(I used to....) ..
Here's few list of the in/transitive verbs here. Hope it helps!..v^_^

Caless Student^ Yeah i was afraid you would say that haha.
The similarity with the potential forms of verbs just makes it even more confusing, but i guess i better get used to it, I'm moving to Japan to study Japanese on Thursday haha.
Thanks a lot for the list by the way, it's longer than i hoped it would be but it should be useful.
Thanks again

Future is freedom and I'm free to wear my favorite clothes
Get into the ideal oblique line
Design myself, and whenever I try to step forward with all of my strength,
Somehow I feel carefree and have the courage,
*Smile*I want to love today's 'me'..
I'm unmotivatedly negative, and whenever I seems to became defeated,
I'll confirm again one at a time where my heart stands,
Yesterday was full of weak awareness,
And while I'm unaware, I already get over it,
There'll be lots of it, don't give up, you don't want to quit, right?

International PerformerHi everyone,
I would know how do you form the "must" form of a verb like "I must go" or "I must eat" ?
I spoke briefly with my Japanese teacher and for exemple with "行く" he said me its "行かなければならない" so i concluded to form one you tanke the plain past neg form "行かない" and you just add "ければならない"
Am I right if with " 食べる" it results in "食べなければならない" ?
He also said me that "ければ" is for "must" and "ならない" for "to become", is it correct ?

Hmm, I'll try to help a bit.
'Must' form consist of two part: ~なければ(nakereba) + ならない/なりません(naranai/narimasen).
1. ~なければ(nakereba) means: if (you) don't ..
example: 行かなければ (ikanakereba) -> if (you) don't go, 読まなければ (yomanakereba) -> if (you) don't read.
2. ならない/なりません(naranai/narimasen) means : won't happen/become.
Literally/logically, for me, 'must' form goes like this..
example:
1. 行かなければ ならない/なりません: (If you don't go, it won't happen) (So), you must go..
2. 食べなければ ならない/なりません*: (If you don't eat, it won't happen) (So), you must eat..
Sorry, I kinda bad on explaining things. But I hope this would help you..
P.S:
..~なければ is a negative form of 'if'. The past negative form of 'if' is ~なかったら (nakattara).
(Yup, you're right! )*negative form for verbs ends with ~eru such as taberu is tabenai. So, it becomes tabenakereba naranai/narimasen.

Learning those damn symbols is gonna suck though.

Try to write down the romaji of below words.
ともみおがわ、ライブ、リーはサル、ぎゅうどん、がっき、ドラム、まみささざき、はるなおの、りなずすき、きゅうに、フェス、ほっぺた、しゅんかん、りゆう、えいすけ、たすける、おおさか、しゅじゅつ。
Let's go to the next step, the basic pattern of Japanese that Tofu mentioned earlier on the beginning of this thread.
~は(wa)~です(desu)。 Combination of ~wa and ~desu works like to be (am, is, are).
And when はused as particle, it pronounced as 'wa' not 'ha'.
Example:
わたしはじごくです。わたしはハンサムです。Watashi wa Jigoku desu.Watashi wa hansamu desu.
I am Jigoku.I am handsome.
Or when someone ask your name, you could just reply like below.
ジョンです。John desu. I am John.
Now, let's check out below conversation:
こんにちは。わたしははやしです。Konnichiwa. Watashi wa Hayashi desu.
Hello, good day. I am Hayashi.
にほんじんです。わたしはにほんごのせんせいです。Nihonjin desu.Watashi wa Nihongo no sensei desu.
I am Japanese. I am a Japanese teacher.
どうぞよろしく。Douzo yoroshiku.
Pleased to meet you.
リオ:はじめまして、わたしはリオです。Hajimemashite. Watashi wa Rio desu.
Rio: Nice to meet you. I am Rio.
はやし:あなたはにほんじんですか。Anata wa Nihonjin desuka.
Hayashi: Are you Japanese?
リオ:いいえ、わたしはにほんじんではありません。Iie, watashi wa Nihonjin dewa arimasen.
Rio: No, I am not Japanese.
わたしはインドネシアじんです。Watashi wa Indonesiajin desu.
I am Indonesian.
As you seen on above, there's two words that derives from です, ですかand ではありません.
ですかused for interrogative sentence and ではありません is used for negative sentence.
note: Katakana is used for non-Japanese name in written language.
And 'あたし'(atashi) commonly used as 'I' for female speaker, but they might/can/often use 'わたし' too.
Mami often use 'ぼく'(boku) which is the same as 'I' but commonly used by male speaker.
- Spoiler:
じごく:まみーさん、あいしてるよ。
まみ:いいえ、ぼくはきみにあいしてませんよ。
じごく: …

@Erick M
Well, you have to use hiragana to write down those katana parts. Katakana used for words that derives from foreign language other than Japanese. And yeah, you can start to practice using that!
But in this case, I use 'あいしてる'(aishiteru) instead of 'すき', and the particle used is 'に' (ni), instead of 'が'(ga). See the sentences below:
ぼくはまみーさんがすき。Boku wa Mami-san ga suki.
I love Mami-san.
ぼくはまみーさんにあいしてる。Boku wa Mami-san ni aishiteru.
I am fall in love with/to Mami-san.

If you use 'すき' (suki) when you're confessing to someone, the particle used is 'が' (ga) .babaloued wrote:
In the second sentence, it is not が instead of に after きみ?
