Interesting, but most countries dont have cassette tapes any more and people would have nothing to play them on.

The cassette revival is so weird to me. Vinyl makes sense because it sounds good and has nice big artwork. Cassettes are like poor quality mp3 files without the convenience.

That said, I'm sure I'll buy whatever they release on cassette. And I do have a cassette deck hooked up to listen to it on. I actually think good cassette decks are fun to play around with, I just don't get the idea of people using them to really listen to music on today. It's like intentionally watching TV on a little black and white CRT.

I agree with @spacecadet 100%.  The cassette revival makes no sense.  The appeal was they were portable and took up less space in your room, but they provided crappy sound back in the day, and there's no reason to believe it's somehow better than anything else that exists today.  If you're going to go to an old format for quality, go analog vinyl.  

That being said, I did mostly collect cassettes over vinyl when I was younger.  I will probably get whatever Scandal puts out just to have it (may even frame it for my music room because it will be so odd).  

What would be cool is if they treat this like many of us did back then and have it created as a personal mix tape by the girls.  It could be their own songs or someone else's, but it would show off their personality in the process of what they would like us to hear.  Even cooler, go the KISS route and have each girl make up their own mix tape.  Personally, I would love for the cassettes to contain outtakes or demos.  That would definitely feel old school.

That said I do have a Goodmans Music Center that plays vinyl, CD's and a dual cassette player for all my old stuff, but I still dont see the point.

I could could copy their cassette and sell them I suppose but I would of course never do that.

I haven't used an audio cassette since the late 90s ... I didn't know it was back in fashion?   .hmmm.

I hope that if they release a new song, it will be available later on CD ... I don't want to look for my old Walkman!

When Nuclear Blast announced to release their back catalog in cassettes few years ago, I though they are crazy. But now come Scandal, I'm speechless.

Even with nothing to listen this on, I'd probably still buy a SCANDAL cassette lol. Maybe I can dig up my grandpa's old cassette player, but who knows if that still works. If they're getting into old formats, I hope they release some vinyls too.

Still seems like a cute project though. I wonder what cassette-related things they're actually gonna release. :D

I would love to spin some Scandal on vinyl at home, but if they go this route they can't just press the CD master onto the platter.  Then it will be a big waste of cash, and aurally pointless for the format.

How many listens before the tape gets chewed up, spat out and you have to wind it back in with a pencil?

Would make for a nice little collector's item, I suppose!

Yes I dont really see the point as cassette tapes had such poor sound quality and wear out quite quickly but I guess it is all good publicity for them.

^wear out quickly? I've got a Pretenders cassette I got in 81 that i still play on the reg. I've got a Nissan Murano 2005 that has a factory cassette player in it (weird). Works great for super cold winter mornings when the CD player's not warmed up sufficiently.

Eh... kinda repeating what I said a little I guess, but while I love everything they do these days, I'll probably skip that player. It looks like an extremely low-end player with a Scandal logo on it. I don't think I expected much different, but I think they had an mp3 Walkman at one point that wasn't so bad. But the record player and then this cassette player just look like junk.

If they do bundle it with a cassette tape of them playing something, especially if that's the only way to get it, then I will buy it. But if it's just the player by itself, pass.

This would never happen, but for a wish list item release it with a cassette of some of their demos. They have a big enough die-hard audience that would likely buy that (ala spacecadet above).

The cassette player may look cheap, but Tomomi all in yellow is pretty classy.

BTW, I have that exact cassette player @wildthing posted.  It's not bad for converting old tapes to MP3.  It is a bit funny taking a lousy audio source and converting it to a lousy compressed format.  I have a lot of personal tapes (demos, live performances and recordings with friends) that are nice to hear again thanks to this converter so I can't really complain about it.

Yeah... they say on the interview what are the positives of cassettes in their opinion but if I'm being honest it's kind of weak reasons lol. I liked the player, it's cute and I'd probably buy it if I have the means when it goes on sale, even if I don't plan to use it (I tend to collect a lot of junk lol, as seen below - there's a LOT missing). 

What's funny is that in France we always call this kind of cassette player: "Walkman" ... even if they are not manufactured by Sony (mine was made by Toshiba).
