One of the benefits of no longer being married and not having kids is I get to go to a lot of concerts (160 thus far in 3 years).  Because most of my friends are all married and have kids, I generally go to a lot of these shows solo, which to me is no big deal.  I tend to meet a lot of interesting people along the way.

Since my friends and officemates think I'm a little odd for loving this Japanese band, Scandal, so much, I figured there would be no better place to find a like-minded rocker in the LA area than here in Scandal Heaven.

Anyway, below is a list of shows I'm going to (or plan to go to) until the end of the year.  It will probably grow as more shows get announced.  If there is anyone out there in SH in and around LA that would like to meet up at one of these shows, have a few beers and debate the finer points of Scandal's music, please send me a message or write below.  And if you just want to discuss any of these bands in general down below in the forum, I'm cool with that, too.

9/30 - Dweezil Zappa (Canyon Club, Agora Hills)
10/3 - Tal Wilkenfeld  (El Rey, Miracle Mile)
10/4  - Blind Guardian (Fonda Theater, Hollywood)
10/6 - ZZ Top/Greg Allman/Kenny Wayne Shepherd (Greek Theater, Los Feliz)
10/7 - Tony MacAlpine (Baked Potato, Universal City)
10/13 - Smokey Robinson (Canyon Club, Agora Hills)
10/21 - Sebastien Bach (Canyon Club, Agora Hills)
10/22 - Letters To Cleo (Troubadour, West Hollywood)
10/29 - The Adicts (El Rey, Miracle Mile)
10/30 - Alice Cooper (Pantages Theater, Hollywood)
11/1 - Bad Religion (The Observatory, Santa Ana) [tentative]
11/4 - The Smithereens (Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood)
11/5 - Dee Snider (Canyon Club, Agora Hills)
12/1 - Marc Ford (Canyon Club, Agora Hills)
12/2 - Diamond Head (Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood)
12/3 - George Benson (Saban Theater, Beverly Hills)
12/6 - The Pretty Reckless (Mayan Theater, Downtown LA)
12/9 - Robert Cray (The Rose, Pasadena)
12/11 - Leon Russell (Canyon Club, Agora Hills) [tentative]
12/15 - Animals As Leaders/Intervals/Plini (Mayan Theater, Downtown LA)
12/17 - Chris Robinson Brotherhood (Fonda Theater, Hollywood)
12/18 - Stevie Nicks/The Pretenders (LA Forum, Inglewood)
12/20 - Cracker/Camper Von Beethoven (Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood)

I had to bite my proverbial lip during your exchange in another thread regarding your wife's directive.  I felt your pain.  I had that, too, but more so in my compulsive CD-buying habit.  I'd hate to send you the full list of all the bands I've seen in the last few years alone.

Good for you.  Hope the shows were good.  I haven't seen Cracker or Cleo perform live in 20 years, and CVB was even longer.  I think it was in '88 or '89.  I was surprised to find out Cleo reunited this year.  The Troubadour is the perfect venue for them.

I dont think I have any shows planned for this year other than Silent Siren this friday and then RHCP in March 2017.

To be honest I dont know any of the bands you listed except maybe 3-4, but if you're planning on going to other stuff keep this thread updated because I might be interested in hitting it up

@Noodles

I'll keep it going.  I plan to eventually get a ticket for RHCP.  Trombone Shorty is opening up.  I saw him perform last week, and he is terrific.  It's like late 70's era horn-driven R&B, ala Kool & the Gang or Earth Wind & Fire, but without the vocal harmonies.

As a Scandal fan I suggest checking out The Adicts.  They're a classic British punk band with very punchy, short, melodic songs-- much like Scandal's earlier garage rock sound.  Of course, they are much rougher around the edges than Scandal, but equally as fun live show.  A couple of  samples to consider...

I saw CVB in support of the Key Lime Pie LP and Cracker supporting their first LP so it was a while ago. Camper Van Beethoven were a great group of musicians.
Saw Letters to Cleo in the early '90s in a club back east.
Wow, you bounce from punk to funk to metal. Again, I admire your variety of musical appreciation.

Seeing your list makes me realize one thing I really miss about living in SoCal; the variety of shows to go to. L7, Ron Carter, Robert Cray, Fishbone; punk metal, jazz, blues, to the musical mosaic that is Fishbone. I am jealous!
I'll pass on some of the 80's hair metal though.

Yes I am lucky enough to live only 50 minutes from London by train so there are always cool people to go and see.

There is also a lot of good unsigned talent in Los Angeles, which I'd like to think I'm one of.

Being near a major city is always a bonus for a music fan.  I have thought of moving, but aside from my profession really only existing here, the thought of not getting the musical variety of acts was a big deterrent to relocate.

There is a chance a friend may have to cancel on me for a show tomorrow night at The Regent Theater in Downtown LA.  The band is The Expendables, they're a semi-reggae/punk band from Santa Cruz.  On the punk side they're similar to Rancid or Pennywise.  Reggae is reggae.

Anyway, I'm offering up a free ticket for anyone interested in meeting up.  Opening acts are Tribal Theory (reggae) and Law (rock).  Starts at 8:00.

Updating my upcoming list of shows for those interested in joining in.

The next five days is awesome for any fellow guitarists in the LA area: Back-to-back nights at the Whiskey A Go-Go with Marty Friedman (Megadeth, Cacophany, Tourniquet) and Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr. Big); then Metal Allegiance, which is an All-star metal cover band (Charlie Benante, Chuck Billy, Mikkey Dee, Phil Demmel, David Ellifson, Arejay Hale, Carla Harvey, Gary Holt, Chris Jericho, Mark Osegueda, Mark Menghi, Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, Alex Skolnick, Vinny Appice, Mike Inez, Richie Faulkner, plus special guests); Saturday is Eric Johnson on his first-ever solo-acoustic tour; Sunday is Tony MacAlpine at the Baked Potato, perhaps the most intimate venue in all of LA.  It's like having a concert in your living room , but there's a bar and really huge, football sized potatoes for snacks.

1/18 - Marty Friedman (Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood)
1/19 - Paul Gilbert (Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood)
1/20 - Metal Allegiance (Anaheim Grove, Anaheim)
1/21 - Eric Johnson (The Rose, Pasadena)
1/22 - Tony MacAlpine (Bake Potato, Universal City - 9:00 early show)
1/28 - Dorothy (Troubadour, West Hollywood)
1/29 - Ace Frehley/Enuff Z'Nuff (Canyon Club, Agora Hills)
2/4 - Volto (Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood)
2/18 - Adam Ant (The Observatory, San Diego)
2/19 - Alterbridge (Wiltern Theater, Koreatown) [tentative]
2/20 - Uli Jon Roth (Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood)
2/25 - Overkill (Anaheim Grove, Anaheim)
3/2 - Y&T (Canyon Club, Agora Hills)
3/4 - George Benson (Saban Theater, Beverly Hills)
3/12 - Ann Wilson ((Wiltern Theater, Koreatown)
3/16 - Saxon/UFO (Belasco Theater, Downtown LA)
3/17 - John 5 & The Creatures (Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood)
4/21 - Richie Kotzen (Canyon Club., Agora Hills)
4/22 - Richie Kotzen (The Rose, Pasadena)
4/23 - Quiet Riot/Black 'N Blue/Streetwalking Cheetahs (Rainbow Bar & Grill, Hollywood - free all-day show)
