Hello, everybody.
I discovered Scandal randomly on YouTube almost two years ago by looking up “hard rock band Japan” hoping I would discover someone new (it’s been a long time since Loudness premiered in the States, and I felt Japan was due to give us another good rock band).
An icon of the girls’ faces came up, but I thought they were models in the video. The song was “Shoujo S,” and I was blown away. The video production was terrific, but the song was incredibly catchy and it rocked! I checked out “Shunkan Sentimental” next, and then “Harakuze.” Same thing-- I literally could not fall asleep that night because the songs were stuck in my head. For the next week I got hooked playing every video I could possibly find off YouTube.
I’m a major rock nerd; been playing guitar for 35 years and have amassed a HUGE record/CD collection, etc. Since I purchased all of Scandal’s digital albums (all at one time), it has been very hard for me to listen to much of anything else for too long. It’s funny; Scandal is making me neglect thousands of albums I enjoy because they are so darn good.
Since I don’t understand Japanese I listen more intently to all the orchestration and instrumentation than any other band. There are so many great nuances to their songs and performances, and it excites me to no end. The best way I can express it is that even though I am slightly old enough to be their father, their music and everything about them makes me feel like a teenager. I root for them like they are my own kids.
Sorry if this is a long introduction…
I have been checking into Scandal Heaven quite regularly for the last few months and decided it was time to join in. I found out about Scandal Heaven when I went to my first Scandal show last year in Los Angeles at the House of Blues. Although I got there early compared to most shows, the main floor was packed and there was no merchandise left. I was told it was because of Scandal Heaven members. Thank you. Nonetheless, I had a great time and met a lot of great people who seem to discover the band the same way I did, and they had the same sense of awe about the band.
There is something very special about Scandal, and it’s nice to find a community that feels the same passion I do. Looking forward to talking with you all in the forums.
Cheers.
