The 「ecosystem」 that the rebooted and long-established guitar maker Fender has created in order to save music
「How can we continue to support music players?」
That's a question I'm always thinking about in terms of thinking about the digital world. Those "players" aren't only professional ones like Char, TOMOMI (SCANDAL), Hama Okamoto. People such as those who have just purchased a guitar, and those who have not purchased a guitar but have the desire to play, we also consider them as players.
──Who is Fender watching in the Asian market?
It's a market with a wonderful diversity. For example, bands who have magnificent skills as band players are born here and there. For Japanese bands, it's SCANDAL. These girls are serious musicians. It's almost unbelievable how powerful their performances are. That same flow is also happening in places such as China, Thailand, and Indonesia. I think the next musical revolution will start from Asia.
──Who is a Japanese artist of interest?
That's the most difficult question. One would be SCANDAL, who I've mentioned many times before. Their musicianship and visuals are wonderful. But, there's more to them that just that. They have evolved as songwriters. That's why the levels of their lives and songs continue to rise. Also, it's wonderful that the fans have grown along with them as well.
