I'm surprised that ROCKSMITH hasn't been mentioned here yet. Anyway for those who don't know, it is a rhythm game ala Rock Band\Guitar Hero but with one BIG difference; it uses an actual guitar as opposed to a guitar shaped controller and it will use the song's ACTUAL tabs instead of a button chart.

The highlights in short:-

- REAL guitar. No plastic controller. Plug in ANY old electric guitar into your XBOX360/PS3/PC and play! For people who don't have one, Ubisoft and Gibson have teamed up to put out a bundle which will include the game disc, the converter cable and an EPIPHONE LES PAUL JUNIOR! At 200 USD, I think it's pretty good value. And you can bring that guitar out to jamming sessions since you know, it's a good and proper guitar! A bass DLC will be available later so bassists out there can join in too.
- 50+ songs. For preorders, there are 2 free songs including....... FREEBIRD! But no metal though. Not yet.
- Dynamic difficulty. The game tracks what you are doing and will teach you the song according to your skills (or lack of ). Starting out from simple single notes on one string all the way to the song's FULL tab for both rhythm and lead parts. There is also a "Master" mode where the tab isn't shown on screen. It's just you, your band and the crowd. No tabs. I'm really liking this mode.
- Mini games. Using your guitar as a controller, kill zombies (teaches you chords), shoot ducks (fret positions), play baseball. There's also a platform type game called Scale Runner (which teaches you scales) and a Tetris clone. Each mini game will teach you speed, accuracy and skills that you can use in real guitar playing.
- Amp mode. This part here is AWESOME. Unlock effect pedals, amps and cabinets by mastering songs. Each pedal, amp and cab is customizable just like the real thing and you can create your own tone which you can play the game with later.

Personally, I'm stoked about this and I think it would be very, very useful for beginners and people who have NEVER played guitar. The mini games are especially useful because instead of doing boring scale/speed/chord changes practice by yourself, you can use the games as a teaching aid. Watch all the Rocksmith Youtube videos and see just how awesome this game will be.

I'm absolutely blown away and I WILL be ordering this once it becomes available for PC. Visit the links for info. It's coming out 18th October for XBOX360/PS3 and December-ish for PC.

And wouldn't it be STUPENDOUSLY awesome if SCANDAL were to provide their music for this!

I don't play guitar but this game really looks awesome~!!! Yes I want SCANDAL on rocksmith!! So want this game!! Its so much better than Guitar Hero your actually playing a guitar!! .wow.

QUESTION: I bought Rocksmith for PS3 but I have barely played it.

However just weeks before today, I learned that Rocksmith released it in Japan. Does the Japan version different from the one I bought last year here in the USA? Most important, Does it have any J-rock songs at all to play along? that alone would impulsed me to buy the Japan version. also with how games are nowadays, is there a add-on or pack that allows J-rock to play? or even better, a way to upload any songs into the game and play-along?

Btw, seems MAMI is somehow connected to the Rocksmith Japan PR, nice. any videos?

Has anyone tried this? I've been looking at picking it up, but I'm not too sure how good it is.

The game isn't that good, but is a good choice when you're bored
But If you are a beginner in guitar, the game isn't a good choice, it doesn't teach so well
and if you're a pro in guitar the game isn't a good choice too, the songs aren't a good challenge for any good guitarist

And I know what you mean. I"m a beginner and I don't like the game much, can't really get into it and get bored very easily. Most of the fact is that I'm way more into J-rock than anything.

If they indeed have a version filled with Japanese-rock songs, like, SCANDAL, Stereopony, Chatmonchy, L'arc~en~Ciel, GLAY, X JAPAN, ONE OK ROCK, Kobukuro, GReeeeN, etc. I'll buy it in a heartbeat. I'm wanted the same thing on Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and all those other music games.

It is a shame that there are no games on the market that caters to Japanese music loving fans.
If only they do an exclusive like that for the loads of J-rock, visual-kei bands and their worldwide fans, they would make alot of money.

right now, seems alot of people want to really aggressively promote Japanese Culture to the entire world, and releasing music video games like Rocksmith, Guitar Hero, Rock band with Japanese music genres only would seem like such a great idea.

fyi, Japan was the one who started the trend with musical instruments + video games. and made it popular worldwide. games like GuitarFreaks, Bemani and DrumMania was the forerunners of todays Guitar Hero, Rock Band, etc. and then there is the Dance Dance Revolution franchise that influenced today's Dance Central, etc.

In fact, A music video games, of either musical instruments or dancing would really be awesome and help spread it worldwide.

If releasing on disc is expensive, then sell it on PSN and Xbox Live. that would help cut cost.

can you tell me if there is any SCANDAL, L'arc-en-Ciel, and other J-rock songs? before I create an account that I would probably never used again, I would like to know. btw, I have Rocksmith on PS3, so how would I upload it into the game? does it work that way? load and play of the custom package?

i don't know how upload this song on PS3. I have PC and i had to buy 1 DLC song (blink 182 dammit)

They have B'z, 9mm parabellum bullet golden bomber, kazuyoshi saito, hotei and ONE OK ROCK

hopefully they can add more artists. i think you can request songs that you would like to see be made for the game on their Facebook page

I just realized there is a demo for Rocksmith on Steam, although you need a jack for it..
Anyhow, it seems nice! .happy.

I have this game on PS3 as well.  But I haven't played for a while now.  How do I get those music? update? purchase something on the PSN network?  buy a new version?

Shame on me for creating this thread then forgetting about it almost immediately after.

As an update, I have both the "games" (this one and the new one, Rocksmith 2014) on PC. The word "game" is in quotes because I feel it is more of a learning aid than a proper "game", especially the new one which I feel has lost quite a bit of the first one's "gameness". It's not something you can break out during parties where everyone can play... :PCertainly not like how you can with other music/rhythm games.

As far as I know, those new J-Rock DLCs are for Rocksmith 2014 and are not compatible with the old Rocksmith, unfortunately. If you do have the new Rocksmith, the DLCs should be available where they've always been available eg. PSN, Steam, etc...

By the way, another huge plus for me is that the new Rocksmith (2014) is backwards compatible with the old Rocksmith, meaning any DLCs you have from Rocksmith will be playable in Rocksmith 2014. And it's not a simple port either, some arrangements has been changed slightly and supports the new tone switching feature.

Also, for a relatively small fee of USD9.99, you can import all but three songs from the original game. I did this with mine and counting all the DLCs I had plus the original Rocksmith playlist plus the new Rocksmith 2014 plus new DLCs and now I have so much music on Rocksmith 2014 I've never bothered to count.

As a learning and practice aid, I highly recommend this. It's been great for me and I've discovered a lot of great new music through it. And it has Iron Maiden now. :D

And yes, if there was a SCANDAL DLC, I would buy and download it post haste, regardless the cost!

I haven't played it since last December. I forgot about it >-< But I go the game when I first got my guitar, and I remember having a lot of fun with it  I would love it if there was one released with bands like Scandal, Dustbox, Shank, Girls' Dead Monster, Chatmonchy etc etc etc

game was nice but learning the song phrases may tend to be a bit hard as opposed to just learning the song from guitar pro. 

I know how to play velvet revolver - slither at the back of my mind awake and asleep and i still end up not finishing expert level on that song lol.... this was the problem that i thought would occur when they first announced it. Notes maybe too sensitive so it still registers wrong even if u could play it live so well
