i totally agree with the no ear protection being used because i use to play a lot of lives in small venues as well and it does get pretty loud at one point whether its the music or the audience, sometimes the monitors and PA's are set up where its not that bad because its faced away from the performers. BUT! at that much of decibels can hurt your hearing, so yea pretty concerned about that for the girls, i never had any ear monitors before so my ears would ring a little after the performance, and yea it kind of became a habit.
So lets just hope they are well aware of what they want to do.

Can't read the trad in the spoiler text because it doesn't load but from what you guys are talking about it seems that TIMOxMAMI are never wearing ear protection?!

I don't really remember if they have it sometimes or not but if they never wear them then it's bad... :/ I'm no expert of course but being so close to heavy sounds all the time during concerts can be REALLY bad for your ears and can cause a lot of damage.

I'm really surprised that would be the case, surely this is something they must know and have talked about? Why would the staff let them do that?!

Now I'm worried too... This could be bad in some years... Oh Dobon teamu T_T

Not sure why it's not loading for you because I checked just now and it works for me, but this is what it says:

──Incidentally, do your instruments and/or equipment change for arena-class venues?

TOMOMI: I always have everything together, no matter where or when we play. That doesn't change.

HARUNA: Yes. There are a few things that are added, but basically nothing changes.

RINA: Don't the three of you add on in-ear monitors?

MAMI: That's right. At live houses the sound is picked up by the monitor speakers, and RINA and HARUNA use in-ear monitors. At arenas MAMI and TOMOMI also use them. It really does feel completely different.

TOMOMI: Also, the 3 of us on guitar & bass go wireless at large venues so that we can move around. That's one of the appeals of the staging at arena-class lives. Because we want to move around a lot, we do that to be stress-free.

So, they only wear IEM for arena lives. All the rest they don't, as I had stated previously and had given example pictures of them playing during the STANDARD tour with nothing in their ears.

Playing at smaller venues is not an excuse to not protect your hearing. Practically every musician I've seen at small venues here in LA has worn IEM or the like, so there really shouldn't be an excuse for those two to not wear any auditory protection if they value their hearing.

Thanks TGE, not sure what's wrong with SH for me as I explained in another topic.

Well, it may not become a problem soon but if they don't take care it could be in a few years Sad Their staff should do something, even if it's TIMOxMAMI decision it's not good, staying healthy is priority and their staff should think about that and the long term consequences. Sometimes when you are young (like they are!) you don't think about things like that and you think you are invulnerable but older people should help you do not make mistakes.

Maybe someone or more than one person should start tweeting them about the hazards. We definitely do not want them damaging their ears because we all want to see them on their 30th anniversary! SCANDAL plays really loud music, too... I never paid much attention to it but now I'm really concerned =\

But anyway, thank you for the translation! I agree, it's awesome to know more about how they work/prepare as a band ^^

The idea of them perhaps performing songs they don't usually play at lives has me so hyped up!
Just imagining the possibilities of what they chose for a full-fledged live-broadcasted performance makes me impatient for the weekend already!

──Is it possible that you might also perform songs that you don't normally perform at regular lives?

HARUNA: Maybe (laughs).

RINA: We'll also be performing songs limited to just that day……maybe.

MAMI: It's all "Maybe!?" (laughs).
 .lol. Lol at Mami's statement.
Curiosity kicks in again!
Can't wait .clap. [it's tomorrow :cheer: ]

Again can't read the whole translation, will do so later when forumotion (grrr $^ù#~!) is working again... but this talk about special songs makes me crazy, so much hope for some songs... :D

Well I don't think the songs from STANDARD fall into this category, surely they do no think of 8gatsu or METRONOME as songs they just want to play once and then be done with. And they played them before anyway. Still hope they will play them, obviously they will not play only "special songs", they will do a mix.

They could play songs they have never played at a live before : https://www.scandal-heaven.com/t10437-songs-never-played-live-or-on-tv For example, Sunny Day Sunday, Midnight Television, How Crazy or SCANDAL IN THE HOUSE. The list is not that long ^^

They could also come up with one or several new cover songs they want to play for just that live. They do that sometimes for some concerts like Garasu no Shounen at BEST Xmas 5. I actually think there is a good chance they do at least one song like that.

But what I really hope are songs that they just simply never played on TV, and here the list is much longer!

Well if I could only choose one song it would be SCANDAL IN THE HOUSE. I have the feeling that an arena is probably the only chance to see that song, I can't imagine them playing that song elsewhere or at least on TV. They might play it during a normal concert yeah but on TV they will surely not play it at a festival, it's basically a pure fan service crazy song ^^

If they play it on TV I forgive them for the 360° no-DVD =P

First off, thanks for the translations, thoseguiltyeyes!
I actually didn't know about this particular interview until I saw a tweet about translations being done.  I had only previously read the Oricon Style interview and the short comments posted on Barks, excite, etc.  So, I just finished reading it on the Barks website, plus the English translation for good measure.

I was also surprised at the part about Mami and Tomomi not usually using ear monitors.  I never noticed it before, I guess I took it as a given, but it seems that they really don't, huh....
It's extremely rare and dangerous to not use something.  Nearly all professional musicians use some kind of ear protection....Yes, you may be able to feel the music better without them, but it's not worth the risk of permanent hearing damage....

illiweb is working again for me so I could finally read the translations, thanks for your work!

Worried again about TIMOxMAMI now T_T Also did they not change the sound (auto-tune) of the OJH DVD? They say here they do not edit it but I think there was a discussion about how the sound on the DVD was edited from the TV version.

And why do they mention it's a nationwide live? Wasn't it that case with Budokan or OJH previously? It almost sounds like it's a first? I hope it got great ratings so that WOWOW will pray SCANDAL to do an arena soon again  .common.

Finally about the "songs they normally don't perform", I can only see SITH fit that description now that we know the set list. Well there are some "new songs" (never played on TV) but they already played them at lives and they will surely play them again so I'm not sure what songs they were referring to in this interview. Well they said "maybe" xD

Just dragging an old thread into the present ... out of curiosity I was reading a few of the older translated interviews. I see many SH members at the time of this one (2014) expressed concern about Mami and Tomomi not wearing in-ear monitors to play live. Hearing issues were a valid concern then as they'd be today. Usually the PA is pointed away from the band, but it would still be loud. I wondered if they had changed their setup since then.
