Hey everyone!

From all the musicians I've met, some of them have had really interesting stories about how they obtained them. There was one guy I met during high school who owned inherited a 1957 Fender Stratocaster, one of the most highly sought by collectors and ultra rare. There was another guy I met a year later who had built the guitar himself from this huge tree he had cut down in his backyard.

So what are the stories behind your instruments? Doesn't matter if they're super short or novel material. Lets hear them all. I'll start this one off.

My first guitar was a 2010 Ibanez S670 which I had bought myself for around $1000 AUD when I was in my final year if high school in 2010.
In July of 2009 I decided to start saving up for an electric guitar after being in total envy of my aforementioned friend's super awesome vintage stratocaster. At the time I didn't have a part time job like most high schoolers. Instead I just received a weekly allowance of $20 from my parents. This money was supposed to be for buying my school lunches but I never spent a dollar of it. Instead when my parents gave me my allowance of that single 20 dollar note, I'd go up to my room and stick it in a folder.

I kept this up until quite literally a whole year, July 2010. By that time I had saved up around $1200 which was the weekly allowances plus extras such as birthday money amongst other things.

I went online and imported the guitar from Japan which cost me $800 + $200 for shipping. To date it is my most hard earned purchases and one that I am most proud of. It was all worth it in my eyes Nice one

Mmmmm my first bass was some crappy Behringer beginner bass Tongue

One day my cousin (who is a guitarist) came over to jam with my brother (who is a drummer) and he decided to bring over this Behringer bass that he got for free with his guitar. They both decided to force me learn a song and play with them, even though I have never touched an instrument in my entire life.
After minutes of resisting, my curiosity caught the better of me and I decided to give it a shot as for a number of years I have been very interested in actually playing bass.
We played Stockholm Syndrome by MUSE and I played very bad (naturally), I wasn't good enough to learn the outro at the time. I decided to ask him if I could borrow the bass and he said yes (obviously) but quite funnily the bass actually died within three days.
I didn't mind though, I was just using it to see if I would want to continue playing and after a few months, I decided to buy a bass that actually works Tongue

Well , honestly I can't play guitar but my brother does. so , I ask my mom to buy me an electric organ and it was great. Though reading notes killing me .. I think I can handle it.
I've been studying the Twilight's Bella's lullaby by Carter Burwell -- it's okay but I guess I need more practice to perfect it Happy)

Waffledino - wow cool story!

My first instrument was actually a piano, but I don't have any interesting stories other than after 2 years of piano lessons, I didn't learn a thing, but after I started playing guitar, it clicked and figured out how to play the piano.
My 2nd instrument was a viola, and I have no interesting stories for that either...except that I played in my school orchestra for 4 years, until I got tired of playing classical music.
That's when I started playing guitar.
My first guitar was a crappy $30 children's size acoustic guitar by First Act. My little brother bought it, but he ended up not liking it. So I bought it from him for $20. Basically I just messed around on it until I decided I wanted a decent electric guitar.
So one day, I went to my local video store and bought a $199 Fender STARcaster beginner's pack. It took a while to get used to the larger frets, but I started learning songs and learned to read tabs. Eventually, I decided I didn't like the sound of my guitar after playing a few guitars at my local instrument store.
One day, my friend decided he didn't want his Hondo guitar anymore, so he gave it to me. It was basically a Strat knock off...anyway I got that from him for free. I liked the feeling of the Hondo better, and it's funky twangy sound. So I stopped playing my Starcaster for a while.
Then, one day at school, my friend asked me if I wanted to buy his beginner's Les Paul type thing for $50. I said, "sure, why not" So I carried that around school the whole day. Recently, I stripped all of the paint off of it and repainted the whole thing.
A few years later, I decided I wanted to learn bass, so I bought a Squier Jazz bass online for about $180. It was great, except I didn't get a bass amp until a few weeks later.
After that, I decided I wanted a better guitar, so I went for a Squier Telecaster, which sounded way better than my other guitars, and it was more comfortable.
and then I bought an Ibanez acoustic, which is ok.
Anyway, now I just play the Tele, the bass, and the acoustic most of the time. I don't really have any high quality instruments, but they do me fine. Their good enough for recordings... and I play bass in 2 bands.

i got my first instrument when i was on 4th grade and it was a keyboard, my parents even enrolled me to a music school, i had lessons every saturday and sunday. After a few months I lost interest and stopped going to my lessons. i still remember how everyone kept on convincing me to continue. lol.
it took me years to fell in love with another instrument, i was on my 3rdyr HS that I got interested with guitars. most of my classmates and friends were guitarists and they would alwasy bring their guitar and jam, i would watch them play and try to imitate how they play on my mind. i learned by watching them. lol. i got my first guitar when I was on 4th yr highschool, it was an acoustic. then on my first year in college, i asked my parents to buy me an electric guitar because back then me and my highschool friends were thinking of starting a band (but it didn't happen, i guess they forgot or didn't take it seriously), they bought me a starter kit and it is still the guitar that I'm using today. I'm thinking of buying a new one on december, but i still don't know what to buy. Onion huh?

My first instrument is a keyboard. Learned it but I like the guitar more. So I've used my Auntie's 50 year old original Yamaha guitar and studied it. That guitar is so awesome but since it is not meant for me because I've only borrowed it, I bought a pretty cheap guitar. It was hopeless haha

After that, my father bought me an Electric Guitar from US. I was in heaven .dies. Never held one before so I'm pretty much happy..Then we had recital before and I became the bassist..Love it too so I bought a beginner bass. Then, got recruited in a band. Unfortunately, we've disbanded after our vocalist went abroad.

Today, I do jams with my sister and brothers, they are also musically inclined. Now we have a family of one piano, one keyboard, one e. guitar, one bass guitar, two acoustic, one violin, one ukelele, and a drum..Haha, wow, it is pretty much big now..

My first instrument was a $150 Jay Turser Stratocaster copy that I got for Christmas when I was 9. Deep red finish with a white pearl pickguard. It came with a 10W Gorilla practice amp. I've upgraded to much bigger and better guitars since then, but I still have my first guitar hanging on my wall. I've been thinking about scraping the old finish off, repainting it orange, and putting in new pickups to see if I can make it sound any better so I can play it again! I love that guitar.

My first instrument was a recorder. But that aside, my first instrument which I had a REAL interest in was guitar.

Picked it up back in Sec 1 after joining the guitar CCA. A J&D Classical Guitar for $150, which until now I think was still a rip off since I saw that same guitar elsewhere for $90. >_>

So I played a bit of lead and a bit of rhythm in my first year, learning all the basics and stuff. Pretty much got really attached to my guitar. Then year 2 came a huge change. The instructor changed, hence I was thrown into bass, where I was to play one note every 1 bar/4 ticks along with 3 others. Don't really understand why up until now.

So we were given the scoresheets (the lead and the rhythm side was also there on it), then I started to learn all the parts by myself, and was (within 2 weeks) able to play the entire song, both lead, rhythm and bass without any hiccups. There was this once I was caught playing the lead along with the ensemble. Got scolded quite badly for that. Well I was bored. ._.

So after a major performance in sec 2, I didn't go to my CCA for a long time until I was threatened with suspension for missing attendance (CCA was compulsary) in sec 4. At that time I was about to take my O levels so I went for the final 2 weeks, and played in the rhythm section.

Still can't bear to throw my classical guitar away after dropping it down the stairs by accident (don't ask how I have no idea) and cracking the rosette and heavily damaging the woodwork. Took it to a guitar shop and asked if it could be repaired, the answer was yes, but with the amount of money it would potentially take to fix the guitar, I would much rather buy a new guitar anyway.

So using that money I saved I bought an acoustic, then less than a year later bought an electric guitar. Though not a Fender or Ibanez strat like I always wanted, a Suzuki strat copy worked out really well for me.

My first *instrument* was a saxophone, which is how I learned to read sheet music and started to learn music theory.

My first guitar was a Cort P-bass copy, which I got in high school because several of my friends (who played their own instruments) needed a bassist for a band they wanted to start and they noticed I was always drumming my fingers in really complex rhythms. Unfortunately I think that ended up translating better to being a really fast typist than a really fast bassist like they were hoping!

That bass was a piece of junk with action about an inch high and it couldn't be lowered. I remember the pickguard broke cleanly once when I was just pulling the plug out of the jack. Since I couldn't find another pickguard for it, I just duct-taped it and played it like that. It looked like something Kurt Cobain would be playing, but it was out of necessity, not style. I was pretty embarrassed about it.

My band got pretty popular around my area, though; we ended up playing with some famous punk/metal bands like M.O.D. (they were well known then, not sure if anyone here would know them) when they visited our area and needed some warmup bands. I also sang and I used to spit up fake blood on stage Happy

I sold that bass when I graduated from high school. A girl who liked me then gave me a Gibson acoustic that turned out to be worth a ton of money, though it was in really bad shape so neither of us knew it at the time. I felt bad later when I found out. Anyway, after that I switched to guitar, and now I have four electric guitars (two Fender Jazzmasters, a Gretsch G5422TDC and a Squier Strat), although I mostly just play by myself these days, and I'm strictly rhythm. Would love to have another band at some point - there is nothing like being on stage.

Well, this is an interesting thread. Let's see...

My first instrument was my 1986 Yamaha RBX374 bass guitar. When I was about 14, me and my high school friends had an idea to start a rock band. I wanted to be the drummer, but I was beaten to it. Guitar was too hard and I can't sing so bass was the best option. Anyways, my next door neighbor. His father was the bass player in a rock band. He'd given him his old Yamaha RBX bass for a present. But he wasn't interested in playing it.

I offered to buy it from him. He said, "Sure. How much do you want to pay me for it?"I said, "Whatever I have in my pocket."
I thought I had about $100 in my pocket but it turned out I only had $10. He was so desperate to get rid of it that he agreed and sold the guitar to me.

Well, that was that. My band was ready. For a time we were moderately famous in my hometown and province. We played in bars, clubs, battle of the bands and so on. To this day I have played that Yamaha at every single gig we played. Even when my band retired I still have that old Yamaha. It's over 30 years old now but it still sounds beautiful. I customized it a little recently, changed the pick-ups and replaced the bridge but that's it.

Today, I only play by myself. But playing a bass by yourself sucks. My girlfriend can play guitar. She has an ESP LTD and we sometimes jam together. That's fun. But I would like to have another band someday, I miss being on stage. Popping out some bass solos. My Yamaha is so powerful. The tone is so crisp. The bass so heavy and deep. You can create some awesome bass solos on a Yamaha.

I love my Yamaha and I will never, ever get rid of it. It's been my favorite instrument my whole life. I have another bass too, an Ibanez SR5000E Prestige (a gift from my girlfriend Natsumi), but I play my Yamaha the most. It's called Haruna after my Oshi in AKB Haruna Kojima. Maybe one day, when I have a son or daughter I will pass it down to them so perhaps they can be a bass player too.

Anyways, that's my story.

My first instrument was the guitar when I was in high school.
I even formed a band with my two younger sisters and one guy friend. We called ourselves "Destiny" and I was the lead guitarist Hohoho Onion
We learned to play many songs and even performed 'Linkin Park - What I've Done' live once. But sadly, we had to disband after awhile as most of us couldn't commit much time into our band.
If there is another chance, I would definitely love to form another band.
We had so much fun... It would be nice to relive those wonderful moments.

My first instrument was the violin (if you don't include the mandatory recorder lessons in elementary school, which I did like actually). I remember being so proud that I learned how to play Twinkle Twinkle before my first lesson akaka. I don't remember why but I dropped it a year after. I did like it, and still do, so I hope to pick it up again sometime soon.

My first "official" instrument, meaning one I've kept at, is the acoustic guitar! I started in 6th grade and have recently graduated to an electric one. I don't want to sound spoiled... because I probably am lol but my first electric guitar was the Gretsch White Falcon. I've been eyeing it forever, then I found Scandal and saw Mami play it. So when I stepped into the music store... I was hopeless when I saw it. I probably won't be buying another for a really, really long time but it's my own fault aha.

I did get an Oscar Schmidt bass at a sale for only $99! (No idea how good the bass is)With an amp that only costed like.. $67.
I've also rented Ludwig and Yamaha drums... I think, even after playing the guitar for the longest, drums seems to fit me more. There's just something about it.... ^^;

Obviously, I'm just a teensy bit obsessed with playing music now XD

My first instrument was a yamaha classical guitar - i started learning it because i thought all guitars were similar! It was only when i took lessons that i realized 'this isnt what the guitar i want to learn...'
and then i got an acoustic one.

And Recently i got a fender stratocaster which is probably the most expensive thing i've ever bought in my life! But it's totally worth it!

Secretly one day i hope to have a classical, acoustic, electric guitars + a bass guitar + a drumkit (Even though i don't know how to play drums or bass XD)
