Shiroten PerformerI enjoyed watching the live action too! I preferred 2012 as it was more serious. Don't get me wrong I liked 2014 and Taiwan, but there was too much "comedic" effect used. Plus 2012 had Nishiuchi Mariya!

Mainstream ArtistThe cast for the GTO 2012 series is pretty interesting. You have a few people with very limited resumes in dramas (AKIRA, Takimoto Miori, Yano Masato) teamed up with some actors with tremendous backgrounds (Yamamoto Yusuke, Shirota Yu, Takizawa Saori) together with some young up-and-comers that I think will have amazing careers (Kawaguchi Haruna, Nishiuchi Mariya, Honda Tsubasa).
I really enjoyed the 2014 series, too, though some of the themes were a little bit more serious, especially teenage pregnancy, and the whole thing about shooting holes in photos of classmates.
I haven't seen the Taiwan series yet because I haven't found a decent set online with English subtitles.

Shiroten PerformerI'm All Access on CrunchyRoll which has all three. The Taiwan one is funny because AKIRA doesn't know Chinese/Cantonese at all. None. lol

Mainstream ArtistI saw the first couple of episodes online, but the place I found them seemed to have videotaped a television running the show with subtitles, then uploaded that recording. The focus isn't very good, the picture doesn't fit the screen, and sometimes the subtitles are only half visible. It was so annoying, I figured I'd wait until I could find a better version.

Shiroten PerformerI'm a crunchyroll member too haha! Yeah that's how I started watching it.
I guess 2014 did touch on more serious issues but the way it was filmed seemed too comedy driven for me. I did like the theme song High-school love by E-Girls.

Mainstream ArtistI have to say, I really enjoy AKIRA's portrayal of Onizuka. He gives off a good sense of toughness while simultaneously being a wonderfully caring person.
I have to say, I enjoy his portrayal of Onizuka over that of the 1998 (or 1999) GTO. That version of Onizuka was actually kind of slimy, like dirty-old-man-ogling-teenage-girls slimy. That's not the actor's fault, of course; that's just how the director wanted things to go. I just think I prefer the more recent version of Onizuka being more like everyone's cool uncle that everyone likes.

Shiroten PerformerYeah AKIRA did a fantastic job. I thought the actors/actresses in 2014 seemed more like actual high schoolers. And KT (Kanako and her friend) were funny.

Mainstream ArtistI really like Shirota Yu in the GTO series. It's kind of interesting comparing the cool-guy-with-heart-of-gold character to his portrayal of Sano's nemesis in Hanazakari no Kimitachi e and his portrayal of the hapless geek in Samurai High School.

Shiroten PerformerHeh, I've seen Hana kimi as well. Shirota Yuu looked more intimidating in GTO than in Hana kimi, btw he had a secret crush on Sano right?

Mainstream ArtistHaha...something like that. I'm not sure if it was something really romantic in nature or a "man-crush" where he really respected Sano and didn't want to see him throw his track-n-field career away so easily. I haven't read the manga, so I don't really know what their relationship was supposed to be like, though.
If you haven't seen it, you should watch Samurai High School. Shirota's character in it is absolutely hilarious just because of how different it is from all the other roles I've seen him in.

Mainstream ArtistI watched it on Cooldrama.tv, I think. I know you can find at least some of the episodes with English subs on Youtube and Dailymotion, too. I'm sure there are others, too.
The premise is there is a kid in high school who is really shy and unassuming. He has an ancestor who was a samurai during a war-torn period of history. The spirit of that ancestor enters the boy's body, and periodically takes control to help him when the kid needs it. It's very comedic.
The lead is Miura Haruma (Last Cinderlla, Gokusen 3), and the supporting actor is Shirota Yu. The supporting actress is Anne (Kasuka no Kanojo, XXXholic, Propose Kyodai). Pretty decent group of actors.
