This is a strange topic, Scandal vs AKB48 ?
If you listen to this Minami Minegishi ( Miichan ) does a perfectly good job on vocals and the other girls are just chillin' out and having fun !

AKB48 who I also adore are giants of the Japanese music industry and I have read many of the girls like Scandal along with many other J-Pop bands.
They have appeared with Scandal on several Japanese shows ( not singing ! ) and they both respect each other.

They are just having fun, think of it as karaoke !
Maybe Scandal will do "Heavy rotation" on their next album, hehe !

it is obvious that SCANDAL do better because SCANDAL is band and AKB is idol,
SCANDAL focus on music and instrument, AKB in Dance and sing
so i think there is no need to compare it. Yes that they perform no good but maybe they do it just for fun, not for perform.

It can't be benchmarks for their affinity, yet i hate the YT comment lol

I don't understand Japanese but do they specifically say in their intro or any part of the clip that they are singing "Secret Base" ala "Scandal Style" or did the uploader took the liberty of connecting the dots to form a line which is "AKB48 - secret base (SCANDAL style )"?

Cause when you parody/cover something it is always directed to the original... which is Zone in this case...

I think they meant no harm... Not a big fan of Zone and not a fan of idol music in any form but personally it's annoying to hear them sing such a great song in that way... they should have chosen another song to do it... anyway as Tony says they are just having fun...

I can't help but click the "dislike" button. Yes, the one in the lead vocals really did her part well, but.. oh my [-( . As alrick said, they could've chosen another song, at least an upbeat song if they're going to sing that way.

*Just stating my opinion and I mean no harm. I'm not a ZONE fan nor an Idol unit for that matter. Just a music fan.

Dont make this a thread were you fight against eachother to prove who is best, this is a SCANDAL forum but, healthy discussions are allowed, please state why you like/dislike whichever group (remember, no bashing) and respect others opinions

It's a fun video to watch, and the girls really look like they're just fooling around. They do not remind me of SCANDAL, but simply a 4 piece girl band in general.

But the girl doing the drums, I can just imagine how tired it must be keeping her legs in the air to mimic doing the bass drum LOL

I think more than the video itself... the youtube title is the one who is generating much hate... "AKB48 - secret base (SCANDAL style )" which I didn't see any indication in the clip that AKB members are directing their performance to Scandal....

It's fun and tempting to compare artists/bands but when you look deep into it they are not really comparable.. now because of this I'm starting to get curious with AKB48

any idea of the performance date on the video?

I do suggest that don't share the video on FB etc.... cause it is easily misinterpreted.... and spreading hate between J-music artist is one of the things we should avoid

The Scandal fans posting on Youtube are giving every other Scandal fan a bad name, with the way they're so damn over-protective. It's a joke, grow up and get a sense of humour.

This is taken from AKB48's Aki Matsuri where they are doing cover songs as part of their Karaoke competition.

They may want to use this to let down as they had performed 2 full concerts before this already at the same venue, hence some goofing around.

Basically, don't get too offended, probably this uploader is trying to stir things up.

Okay, first my opinion. As far as I'm conserned Scandal is far more talented than AKB48. Scandal songs are well written, they sound great when they sing, they play all their own instruments very well and not to mention the choreography they display while playing those instruments as well as being beautiful to watch. AKB48 is cute to look at but their music is not that good. I see no real musical talent there. Like some of you already said they are more idol than musical. Now for the funny. I downloaded an AKB48 photobook a few months ago that came with some clips of the girls talking during the photoshoot. They all had to pose with live bunny rabbits for some of the photos. Yuki Kashiwagi almost had a fit and started to cry because she was apperantly affraid of rabbits and didn't like them (how can anyone not like a kawaii usagi?). She's the only girl in the group that didn't have a bunny in her photos.

I'm considering making a flash movie based on AKB48 being afraid of SCANDAL dressed like bunnies. .hmmm.

I'd have to disagree with this completely.
They all have a lot of talent, more-so in dancing and acting, but their voices are still good. Whether their music is good or not is entirely subjective.

This is hard for me because I am a huge fan of AKB48 and Scandal.
I just want to make a few points, AKB48 have sold more records than Scandal could ever dream of and each girl has been chosen from thousands, so it is quite untrue to say they do not have talent.

Everyone is scared of something, have you forgotten that Haruna is scared of chickens ?

@ Sour Chicken: I'll give Yasushi Akimoto due credit for writting all of AKB48s songs. But out the 300+ songs that they sing not to many of them sound that great. But that's really just my personal taste in music. Morning Musume has a ton of songs too but to date I only like 2 of their songs. Anyway back to the subject here, I'm not bashing AKB48 like I hate them, on the contrary out of the 3 teams of 16 girls I like Team B the best. I'm just giving my opinion on why I think Scandal has more musical talent than AKB48. To me a good band writes their own lyrics plays their own instuments, and sounds awesome when all the elements are put together. Like Scandal or Metallica or even Taylor Swift. But putting a bunch of cute girls on a stage giving them songs to sing and teaching them dance moves isn't really reflecting the artists talent is it? After all they're not the ones composing the music or lyrics. And comparing acting to singing is like... well... comparing rabbits to chalk (lol). I've seen several AKB48 pvs and I can tell you from what I see. Most of the girls sing in a group or duo altering the way they really sound so your not really hearing just that persons voice. You're hearing 2 to 4 or more.
And I never said that its bad that Yuki-chan is afraid of bunnies you kind of make it sound like I called her a wimp or something. I think its funny though that she's the only one in that photo session that was without a bunny. Honestly Mayu-chan looked adorable with her bunny. Plus it's a BUNNY! They are so cute.

@ tonymiller: Yeah, but AKB48 has 3 main units and a couple of sub units to give songs to. And like I said with 300+ songs that Yasushi Akimoto wrote, they've got a pretty big list of albums.Most of which I just don't find worth listening to. But there's that personal preferance thing again While Scandal only just realeased their 3rd album. .uhuh.

And finally, chickens aren't cute... they're tasty. Leave Haruna-chan out of this. .bleh. .
