Although you technically don't need a passport to attend the con, it'd be better if you got one (especially a 3-day passport) since the benefits that come with it are great. Here are the 3-day pass benefits:

- Priority entry for the "private" M&G with SCANDAL (separate from the GOH "party" that they'll also have)

* FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

- Do I need both a passport and a concert ticket to get into the concert(s)?
No, you do not. If you buy a passport, you do NOT need to buy a concert ticket as well.

- Will there be SCANDAL merchandise sold there? If so, what?
Yes, some are expected to be sold there. Of course we have no idea exactly what will be available, though.

- Do I have to line-up super early/hours before an event to get a good spot?
Please refrain from doing so. All of us would appreciate that.

- Will I be able to meet SCANDAL?
Yes, you will. There will be 3 opportunities: An autograph session (preference will be given to people who attend the panel beforehand & have a passport), a M&G party for passport holders, and a "private" M&G for passport holders and people staying at qualifying hotels.

- What is the camera policy for the SCANDAL concert?
The camera policy at AM2 depends on the artists; they apparently usually film their overseas performances, so cameras are usually not allowed. There hasn't been official word yet on whether or not they will be allowed for SCANDAL, but most likely they won't be, as they usually don't allow cameras at their shows anyway.

SCANDAL, anywhere in the US, I'm there for sure!

I asked on the twitter account they have if it was going to be SCANDAL, no reply, but if I get one I know where am going first.

Also Jade and myself took the liberty of asking them on facebook if it was going to be scandal.

I estimate a chance of roughly 70% that SCANDAL will show up, but we'll keep you all posted on that.

Here is my thought, The site says the convention is free. That makes buying the passports optional in my mind.

buying a passport does this:

* One hour advanced entry into the AM² Exhibit Hall for all 3 days
* Special discounts with participating Exhibit Hall exhibitors
* 15 game tokens for the Summer Festival with a 3-day AM² Passport purchase
* Premier entrance/seating in all main events (first come first serve basis)
* Premier/fast-line for autograph lines, panels and workshops
* Special entry to private parties with select GoH’s
* Discount admission to the Animaid Café

Those three in bold are what matters to us. Pretty much the day of concert if SCANDAL shows up, we would need to get over to the line where the hand out tickets for the event as fast as possible. It would ensure we get the front row and we can all sit by one another.

We can cut/get into the autograph line pretty fast as well (bring the stuff you want SCANDAL to sign).

The last one is special entry into private parties with GOH, so we get to hang out with Voice Actors, Manga Artist, and maybe SCANDAL.

AX never gave us a chance to meet SCANDAL, the original plan was Jade and I were going to sneak backstage and meet them .chesttap.

Chances of them performing both are slim. I'm almost certain this con is run by the group that split from AX awhile back (especially evident as it's going to be directly challenging AX in terms of date as well as free general admission). Looks like AX loses this round!

You can purchase the passport now from the official site linked in the first post. It's up to you of course if $40 is reasonable to spend when they haven't been completely confirmed yet.

I've never volunteered at an anime convention, but I went to PAX representing the company I work for (theoretically one level higher than volunteers on the "who would be willing to fetch water for who" totem pole) and you get to go into the convention site early but you're not really any different from the regular attendees as far as meeting people or attending events goes, you're just working for X number of hours that they aren't... hehe

haha zim. Well, we could always go to AX on the last day if we have to. And we technically don't need a pass/my friends who make fake passes could probably either make us some or give us theirs, since they usually don't go on the last day.

And wat: lol on their FB, AM2 claims that it "wasn't their intention to compete with AX." They said:

It wasn't our intention to compete with AX. We really wanted our convention at the Anaheim Convention Center. There were only two sets of dates available, and one set was during the weekday, and one was July 4th weekend. We didn't have much choice at that point. In an ideal situation, attendees should be able to go to both conventions. Also attendees now will have an extra option to enjoy an anime convention based on their budget =]

AM² is a completely free convention to attend, you have access to all the amenities such as karaoke, dance, arcade, table top rooms, main events and more - absolutely no badges are needed! Make no mistake about that!

But, there are additional benefits in getting your "Passport" which is basically your 'fastpass' around the convention.
